Yoshi's Island 2 online play?

Packshot suggests so.

A Yoshi's Island 2 packshot unearthed by Kotaku suggests that the forthcoming platform sequel will support Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection multiplayer.

In Yoshi's Island, the titular dino and his pals had to carry baby Mario and Luigi to safety, and the sequel already promises babies Mario, Donkey Kong and Peach - each of with imbues Yoshi with unique powers - but the box-art also quite clearly shows Wario and Bowser too.

Quite what role those two will play (the press bumf only mentions Yoshi and "three young superstars") and what form the multiplayer will take remains to be seen, but not for long, since the game's due out on November 13th in the US and on December 1st in the UK.

For more on Yoshi's Island 2, you can check out the E3 trailer released by Nintendo over on Eurogamer TV, which shows how the same splits levels over two screens and retains a lot of gameplay elements from the original, including the flowers, rolling rocks and more.

The original Yoshi's Island was Mario over Luigi, the latter who haad been kidnapped by Magikoopa (plural?) for some... well, as-yet-unknown reason. You didn't need one. The game was ace.

Online play? Mmm... you could have some duels in the original so some of that wouldn't go amiss (like the Watermelon Seed-Spitting Contest), and the pass-the-balloon thing as well was good for a laugh. But a little more variety would be welcomed...

    Oh god I want this.

Hope they go back to the visual style of the original....Yoshi's Story was technically and artistically impressive, but it just didn't have that...something. Not to mention the gameplay.

I really, really hope they don't fuck it up. "They" being whoever Nintendo end up farming this one out to. I'd say I hope Nintendo do it in-house, but after New Super Mario Bros I'm not so sure - not that NSMB was bad or anything, but it didn't even come close to living up to SMB3 or SMW.

That just leaves the question of who could do it justice... I mean, this isn't just Yoshi's Experimental Spinoff or anything, this is Yoshi's Island 2, a proper sequel to a genuinely brilliant game. They can't just chuck it at some shithouse developer like Artoon.

edit: fuck, Artoon's doing it. Suppose I should give them a chance, but... hm. yeah. Blinx, Swords of Destiny, Yoshi's Universal Gravitation.

    *fingers being firmly crossed*

I really enjoyed NSMB, myself; it's been so long since I played a proper platform game that I just enjoyed the sheer jolliness of the whole thing, even at the frustrating bits.
