360 gets Age of Conan

Funcom starts development.

Funcom has started work on an Xbox 360 version of massively multiplayer title Age of Conan - The Hyborian Adventures.

Production's in its infancy at the moment, but the company's still very happy to announce it - pointing out that it's one of just a few massively multiplayer games approved for development on Microsoft's next-gen console.

Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas reckons it'll be a big hit. "The fast-paced and innovative combat system in Age of Conan will suit the demanding console audience perfectly," he claims.

Information about "potential console specific features" as well as a publishing partner and release date will be revealed later, according to the developer.

The PC version of Age of Conan, due out next spring, will be co-published by Eidos, and is considered a "showcase title" for Microsoft's new Vista operating system.

So basically what this means is.. you have to pay Microsoft for being able to connect to the Live Gold account.. and then pay Funcom for being able to connect to their Conan account..

Anyone else who wants my money? Stand in line please! No pushing!

Iirc, you can play FF with a silver account. Not that anyone would be interested in that pos though.

Yeah, that was a pretty bad first post. I'll be sure to stand in your line if you're handing out money freely. ;]

A showcase title for Vista? DirectX10 only? I wouldn't call the game massively multiplayer then when barely a few people will have the OS to run it let alone want to play this game!

Like Xerx3s, I'm pretty sure MS made a statement that MMos would not require a gold sub. FFXI is definitely playable with a silver account.

They only require an online connection, as most use external software independent of the Live network for the servers.

I'm waiting for the first non-subscription 360 MMO. After all, the PC has a few now: Guild Wars, Arch Lord, and Anarchy Online, plus countless indie ones not so well supported...

I may be alone in this, but rather than creating yet another fantasy-themed MMO, I'd like FunCom to concentrate on adventure games. Dreamfall was by far the best game I played this year (at least it was the only game this year that had a story and a character I could get involved in)...

Moonrat: it's going to be backwards compatible with DX9.

Looking forward to this one - the latest vids look very good inded.

well at least it'll be an excuse for MS to sell us an Xbox branded wireless keyboard and mouse.....

It may be fantasy themed but not in the common MMO sense, IE no elves & buckets of blood all over the place. Should be refreshing for a fantasy MMO, altho Il probably play this on the PC rather then the 360.
