UMD combo for Europe

Sony says we're getting it too.

Sony has informed Eurogamer that the Stealth UMD hybrid will indeed be getting a release in Europe as well as the States.

The UMD of Stealth, a military thriller that sounds sort of like a cross between Top Gun and 2001, will come complete with WipEout Pure: Stealth Edition. It features three tracks, crafts and modes, including multiplayer for up to four racers.

The tracks will include an exclusive level specially designed for the Stealth package, and you'll also get to race using aircraft from the movie.

And, "Yes, it will be out in Europe," a Sony representative told us.

However, "We have no further information on this regards pricing," unfortunately - and they won't give us a release date either.

The Stealth UMD is out in the States on November 15, priced $39.95 - considerably higher than the usual movie UMD price of $19.95-$29.95.

Sony Pictures bigwig Ben Feingold has heralded the release as "an unparalleled entertainment experience that marks the next phase in portable entertainment," so that's good news.

At twice the price, it doesn't sound like you're getting much for "free"

"In the near future, the Navy develops a fighter jet piloted by an artificial intelligence computer. The jet is placed on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific to learn combat manuevers from the human pilots aboard. But when the computer develops a mind of its own, it's the humans who are charged with stopping it before it incites a war.."

Oh my. Well, at least Jessica Biel's kinda cute.. (It's a 4.5 @ IMDb.)

depends on the bonus wipeout stuff.

UMD movies are one of the worst ideas ever, this is just taking the piss.
  • Ali #26 7 years ago

No one's heard of Stealth? Emo plane gets hit by lightning and tries to blow up made up countries in a big huff?

If it wasn't played straight, it'd have been funnier than Hot Shots. Still wouldn't buy it though, no sirree bawb.
  • Derblington #27 7 years ago

I saw Stealth at the cinema and I enjoyed it. Wouldn't buy the UMD though.
  • mattius30 #28 7 years ago

Some people keep knocking UMD movies - but I think they are a great idea. I have been transfering DVDs to my PSP with very varied results - so for the movies that I really like and wanna see with perfect audio and video, I'll buy it on UMD. UMD movies are just another added option that isnt available on GBA or DS. What's the problem with having more choice? Its like knocking Xbox and PS2 for playing DVDs and music CDs.
  • firefly #29 7 years ago

No there's a big difference between criticising a console that plays DVDs and criticising UMDs. DVD has become the standard format for home video, most people buy DVDs anyway so why not play them on a console and save some space under the TV? UMDs are Sony's baby and can be easily seen as a way of persuading folks to part with their cash. So far UMDs have proven far more expensive than DVDs despite the fact that they carry no extras and can only be played on a PSP. This UMD simply proves this point and I have no doubt that, if it sells, Sony will make a point of packaging all their 3rd rate flops with game add-ons that could just as easily been offered for a free download and selling them at a premium price.

ok, the films average but parts of the idea aren't bad...instead of rushing out a very very crap movie tie in game, mod an existing one.

but on the whole umd movies are a very pointless idea, a large memory stick, a dvd and time is all you need. Quality is no worse, not at this res and on this size screen.

" ok, the films average but parts of the idea aren't bad"

I'm sorry dude but I dont think most ppl who have seen this movie think it's average . although that link is just one review, I've checked a few different sites and the overall opinion is that the movie is awful. Can't say I'm surprised though as even the trailer looked pretty cack.
