Saint's Row gets US date

End of August.

Volition's a-bit-like-Grand-Theft-Auto gang warfare game Saint's Row has been given a US release date of August 29th.

Publisher THQ hasn't got back to us about a UK date yet - its press site says "spring" - but we'd expect something a bit beyond the end of August if Saint's Row plays to type.

In the meantime, apparently we can expect a demo to appear on Xbox Live Marketplace fairly soon.

As you probably know, Saint's Row is an Xbox 360-exclusive game based on similar principles to Rockstar's well-flogged GTA series, with what Volition reckons is unparalleled AI and a Respect system to govern your gangbanging (US context, obviously).

There's also a bit more of an element of choice to it, Volition reckons, where you could just go into a shop and buy something, but you could always opt to steal it instead.

You can read more about it by checking out our preview, and we expect to bring you some more detailed impressions between now and the game's release.

"a bit like"? "based on similar principles"? :) Now, you're being too kind. Tried the game at E3, it was more like A COMPLETE, SHAMELESS PLAGIATE, in every way except it being tons LESS charismatic AND mucho more UGLY. And that's on a 360, a machine that should theoretically deliver MORE beautiful graphics than the six-year-old PS2, right?

If this game sells, I've officially given up faith in mankind.

Let's all pray that THQ don't rush this game into the shops with bugs before it's finished like they did with WWE Wrestlemania XXI and MotoGP '06! /rolls eyes

I do like people pre-judging games before they've played them. It must make them feel so superior.

oerhört: you ever heard of sarcasm/irony?

If this game is actually good, Whizzo, I'll happily commit Hari Kiri in front of a live, studio audience.

I kind of see your point, but let's be realistic here.

    >"AND mucho more UGLY."

Uglier than GTA? Is that even possible?

Good to see there will be a demo. I can see this might be fun. It might also be shit but at least a demo gives us a chance to see which catagory it falls into for free.

Actually, no. What is that? :)

Uglier than GTA? Is that even possible?

Let's see... According to the how-to-get-uglier-than-GTA-manual it's just to follow these easy steps: "Make generic, overly normal mapped and badly animated characters without the faintest tint of personality. Also, make sure the surrounding city-like buildings and streets are so generic that's it's hard to tell city regions apart."

Is this the same Saint's Row, the 360 launch title?!

Why don't Volition just bite the bullet and make Red Faction 3?
  • Zero Beat #11 6 years ago

Wait for Crackdown, clearly the superior quality game. Why not have both I hear you say. To that I answer Saints Row will make you feel dirty inside, moreso than when you started San Andreas.

crackdown is odd looking but still better looking than this

but really, rockstar just needs to bring us a highly optimised good looking gta IV

if i had a silky smooth new GTA, I would be happy

Errrrrrrr. Looks hideous, overly serious in its gangster-ness, and the create-a-character results are so generic I think my eyes are gonna start bleeding. Although, if the demo is any fun, and multiplayer turns out to be a riot, it might fall victim to being the half-decent 360 title out this summer (are there any else coming out, at all?). God, I'm such a whore.

HarryB: My magic 8-ball says Crackdown's framerate is going to stutter like a mildly retarded 2nd grader.
