20 launch titles for 360 News

Xbox 360 News by Ellie Gibson

13 June, 2005

Munetatsu Matsui - editor-in-chief of Famitsu Xbox, well known for its close connections to Microsoft's Japanese operation - has stated that a grand total of 20 launch titles are lined up for the Xbox 360's November debut.

That's rather more than we've been expecting, frankly, and rather a lot for a publisher planning to launch a new console in three different territories on the same day, you might think...

We contacted Microsoft to ask if Munetatsu's estimate was correct, and a representative told us: "We're not discussing day one titles at this time."

However, the representative did confirm that, "Between 25 and 40 titles will be available for Xbox 360 during launch period." That means from the time the console launches in November until the end of the year, apparently.

In odder news, Munetatsu has also suggested that the Xbox 360 will feature some kind of crazy hidden functions which won't be unveiled until a year after launch, when you'll be able to download an Xbox Live update to access them.

Well now. Microsoft declined to comment, but we'll be keeping a close eye on this one...

Odder should probably be other :P

What the effing hell could that be? Is the xbox 360 going to jump up and start walking around telling you to sit down and play with it? Are they all going to turn into a hologram of J Alltard?

If its being kept secret and not going to unlocked for a year its probably shit.

An update you'll have to download, which will also fix any homebrew workarounds

Don't forget Xbox Live was launched a year after the Xbox

If they can come up with something equally as great as Xbox Live then then they have my attention :) It's also worth mentioning that Xbox Live was annouced at the first E3 after launch

Actually, sources say that the power button is some kind of psychic holografic device, similar to that holovision from starwars. This device will pop up J Allards head from time to time, scaring the living daylights out of you in your underpants.

Also, an extra chip has been build in with the digital self of george lucas. This chip will activate after several years, raping all your good games with bad overdone graphics & drama and replaces all 3dmodels with that of JarJarbinks.

Anyway, i wonder how soon crackers will be able to tap into this stuff.

It'll be just after the PS3 launches to a fanfare of 'on paper' superiority.

you'll get to download the code that switches the other 5 processors (that microsoft hasn't mentioned) on

On retail media centre functionality will be very much controlled by a media centre PC which operates via the xbox. which to be honest, isnt that great as most PC's have a TV out which can do the same tasks.

i wouldn't be surprised if after a few months microsoft release a version of media centre for xbox, allowing you to record TV and so forth.

Aieeee, don't mention that name! Now that I've pretty much given up hope, I just want to forget about it.

So, Grunk, as a matter of interest why do you so obviously want dear sweet old innocent Microsoft to triumph over the evil Darth Sony?

20 launch titles would seem like quite a lot, but is it too many? Given that most people are going to buy two or three games to go along with their machine, chances are some of these titles are going to fail dismally. Would've thought it better to release with half a dozen solid titles and trickle-feed the rest over the next few months.

LOL

Seriously though, the hidden features are very intriguing, but the question is why hide them in the first place?

To save from a humungous download a year later when whatever service it is is launched?

Apparently that is what they're gonna do (MS counts the launch period as the first 2 months or so).

That's not so bad, then. 20 on launch day would be a disaster for at least half of them!
