Burnout for DS confirmed

By Deep Throat-type.

Speaking exclusively to Eurogamer, an EA insider has confirmed that the handheld version of crash-and-bash racer Burnout will indeed get an outing on Nintendo DS.

The PSP version was announced some time ago, but it's only recently that rumours of a DS game emerged after scans of what's alleged to be an EA games catalogue appeared on the net.

It's still not clear if the scans are genuine, but the insider told us: "Yes, Burnout Legends is heading to the DS."

Unlike the PSP version, however, it's not being developed by EA's Chertsey-based team but "a third-party studio in France, supervised by Criterion".

And that's all there is to know, for the time being. But until EA makes some kind of official announcement, you might like to pass the time - or a bit of it, anyway - by reading more about Burnout Legends PSP here, and looking at some screenshots here.

Just bought my DS yesterday, and after spending the best part of two days with it, I don't feel that it should try and do ports of this kind of gaming, it will never be that good. It is better suited to inovative game play styles. Especially on games that are multi format, as it will always look like the weakest platform. It is better with first party titles and exclusives. I'm loving it though, and don't see it as an 'either-or' purchase when considering PSP or DS, I think it will have its place as a separate games playing unit. The fact it plays GBA games is also a pretty good reason to have one.

I think an F-Zero game & Mario Cart will be the best driving games for the DS.

I bought my DS for WarioWare Touched! and the upcoming Animal Corssing DS. Electroplankton and other games are icing on that cake.

Worth bearing in mind, markypants, that the DS isn't 'trying' to do anything.

Burnout is neither Ninty developed nor published. Would you rather they had no mainstream 3rd party support at all?

"This might be good, I would of give the job to Fushion though, they did an excellent job with Need for Speed Underground 2, which has just been released 4 DS."

NFSU2 for the DS was by Pocketeers.

this is a one for the PSP (get it now for £135 from www.importmadness.co. uk) the DS version will not be as good. i cant see how it can compete.

Just got my wario twist from www.importmadness.co. uk for £15 and this is what the DS is about. the DS nees to keep away from these bigger games cos it just ends up showing its limitations.

I think you could do some interesting stuff with the touch screen/aftertouch.

Also, though the burnout graphics are great; I like the game for its great handling, fast speed and track designs... all of which could be done on DS.
