5400 WOW players banned

Plus: new patch news.

Blizzard has banned more than 5400 World of Warcraft players from the game for good as part of plans to clamp down on gold farming and cheating in general.

A further 10,700 accounts have been suspended for "participating in activities that violate the game's Terms of Use, including using third-party programs to farm gold and items."

According to Blizzard, "Such actions can severely impact the economy of a realm and the overall game enjoyment for all players," and " Selling World of Warcraft content, such as gold, items, and characters can result in a permanent ban of the involved accounts."

But there's good news for non-scurrilous WOW fans: patch 1.10.1 has now been released to enhance your playing pleasure. Apparently, the Jagged Obsidian Shield is now Bind on Equip, and the Titanic Leggings Pattern will now drop slightly less frequently, which is obviously the best news we've had all day. You can read the full details over on the WOW website.

Perhaps more excitingly, patch 1.11 is coming soon - and there's good news for Mages, who will get a talent review. The patch will also introduce a new 40-man raid dungeon - the necropolis of Naxxramas, which is home to the dreaded lich Kel'Thuzad. Soon the scourge will march again etc., more info on the website.

im back playing this at the moment, wish they would throw mentoring in that eq2 has. would mean you can play with all your friends not pickup groups... which are always a joke.

    >*another* 40 ppl raid instance?

Dizzy - can you translate for us non WOWers?
  • nickthegun #4 6 years ago

It means there is a 'quest' that requires a group of 40 players to complete. Its on eof the reasons I gave up warcraft. I just couldnt spare 8 hours to listen to some jumped up gimp plan the raid meticulously then another 8 hours to do it.

Only for someone to hilariously do a leeroy jenkins, because no ones ever done that before........
  • Thamuhacha #5 6 years ago

Oh right. That does sound shit ...

    WTF is a leeroy jenkins?

Shouldn't that read "WOW! 5400 players banned!"

    Oh...
  • MaxiSleep #9 6 years ago

The 40 man things only work if you are in a skilled guild. When you are they can be fun, and you learn the boss patterns/tricks etc which speeds them up. But try in a PUG (Pick Up Group) and death will stalk you.

But I do think that 10 man teams is about the best size in terms of getting together a reasonably skilled posse, and also allows different classes to shine. Also it allows the largest % if payers to participate.

It seems a lot of this raid content all the time is chasing some people over to EverQuest II which instead is going in a more WOW-ish direction each patch...
  • Thamuhacha #11 6 years ago

    That video is pretty funny

But only the bit where he shouts and charges off. The rest is complete gobbledy-gook ... to be fair

examples of how wow people talk to eachother, do not listen to these if you get annoyed when people talk without respect for the people they are talking too.

first one, i would kill someone for talking like that. honestly, walk upto me in the pub go on like that, and you'll be picking broken glass outta whats left of your face for months.

    >examples of how wow people talk to eachother

    This is so true!

I hate these big raids... mostly they are run by no-lifers who suddenly think they are important in the world. It also helps that they are probably half my age ;)

End-game in WoW is really a big sad place.... and quite scary.

If any of these people would walk into my real life I would probably show them what aggro really means.

WoW is the new WoW - didn't you hear?
  • Bertie Verified Senior Staff Writer, Eurogamer.net #15 6 years ago

Hey! I ran big end-game raids for a while, and I'm only a bit mad. I've escaped wow now, brown cow, which is just aswell - seeing as they're clamping down on cheating ;)
  • kangarootoo #16 6 years ago

Christ, that first recording is funny. I can't believe anyone actually stayed in the game.

LOL, it just got to the bit where he says "don't let me get mad at you". Hmmm, little late for that buddy.

This is what internet anonymity does to people (idiot people, not normal ones, lets be clear).

Reminds me of playing a game of Laser Quest about 10 odd years ago. Some kid on the same team as me was crawling past me on the floor. He gives me this look of disgust (because I was standing up) and spat "I hope you get shot".

God I wish I'd had the presence of mind to shoot him. Being shot by someone on your own team would probably have been more than his over serious mind could deal with. That or smack him in the head with the butt of the gun I guess. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'd just like to agree with many of the above posters, once you get to level 60, the enjoyment factor of WoW drops considerably. I really liked the 5 man dungeons - although you have to work in a team (which I enjoy) you feel that you can still be important in that group. When there is another 39 of you then it isn't as much fun, even if the monsters are bigger.

I don't think I'll go back to WoW even with the Burning Crusade add-on. I'll either wait for the "WoW Killer" (which will be GTA Online, trust me!) or WoW2, where they start a fresh, either of them is years and years off but I'm not in any rush to give up another 6 months of my life...
  • spindizzy #18 6 years ago

Jesus those recordings are scary! I don't play WoW to be shouted at... or to sworn at like that. How come the other players put up with it?
  • paulf #19 6 years ago

mage talent update will be greatly appreciated by me, as for instances get yourself on the horde side and find a guild thats a little more mature and it certainly improves the experience
  • Khab #20 6 years ago

Horde side? I have a Horde alt, and I've yet to discover a Horde player that's even reasonably articulate/more than 12 years old.
  • yagisencho #21 6 years ago

Oh joy. Another 40-man raid dungeon.

I *much* prefer the 5-man or 10-man raid dungeons. We can all get on Teamspeak and still manage to communicate openly, enjoy the instance, etc. Joining 20 or 40-man raids is like being a pawn in an RTS game. Not what I signed up for.

Haven't had much call for WoW though since Oblivion came out.
  • dudefella #22 6 years ago

Horde isn't really more immature in general than Alliance imo, both have pretty much an equal number of retards, if anything I'd say there are more retards in alliance. But yeah I just hit level 60 with my orc hunter and lost pretty much all interest in the game. I'll probably roll a new character, I don't think endgame instances are for me, maybe the 5 man ones but raids? nah.

Almost exactly word for word from my dvd recorder manual...
