Tasty Quake Wars LAN at E3

Beat-Stroggos-off.

You might not be able to rocket-jump into helicopters, but Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is still looking like a mighty fine earth-versus-aliens alternative to Battlefield 2.

That's a link to the preview by the way, and not a picture of someone rocket-jumping into a helicopter - although if you do have such a picture from real-life, send it send it!

Anyway, we mention this because Activision's apparently confirmed that we'll be able to go properly hands-on with Quake Wars over a 24-player LAN at E3 this year - where one level of the game will be demoed.

Which ought to give us a good chance to see how that sexy Megatexture technology - "the whole planet is one big texture!" - is working out, and how the handsome humans and ugly Strogg have been getting on with their mighty war machines.

In the meantime, for more on how it all works, check out our extensive preview from earlier this year.

Woah. Nice.... Pity I won't be at E3...
  • Furbs #2 6 years ago

    I want.

If this doesnt come out on "that console" (lets not turn this into the usual debate about which is better eh?), my Vista-scheduled upgrades might have to be brought forward.

    /hopes for delays.

Any words on system requirements for this?

What? It will only run on Vista?

Beat-Stroggos-off... I can't decide whether that's the best strap line ever or the worst.... However I'm sure Mr Bramwell has been patting himself on the back ever since. I know I would be :)

"What? It will only run on Vista?"

No, but Vista is going to need some pretty hefty hardware and my PC wont run it, so I was planning an upgrade around that time.

Jahaaaaaa i cant wait for this since im still playing ET every day!

Requirements are D3/Q4 spec, they think it will run a bit better as its well optimised.

They are looking into 360 & PS3 release, to come when they get the PC version out.
  • Dizzy #9 6 years ago

Well Id is now developing their engines on 360 first so who knows....

Of course how much is Id involved in QW?

WHO THE HELL WENT ON THE BEACH YOU NOOBS!!!111

(wonder if there will be a level in seattle. In quake 4 they say 'Wow, they still talk about what rhino squad did in seattle back in the earth invasion...'
  • lambtron #13 6 years ago

Hopefully this will be just as good as ET was. IMHO it was a far superior game to any of the Battlefields. Although I am a little worried that the addition of vehicles will just mean yet another game has to suffer planetards and their various cousins :(.

"Quake Wars is still looking like a mighty fine earth-versus-aliens alternative to Battlefield 2."

It wont be hard to be better the Battlefeild 2, they just need to release it COMPLETED.
    Since Battlefeilds 2 still isn't.

With both BattleField style contenders going for this slightly more realistic approach, is anyone else thinking how cool it'd be to have an arcadey/abstract FPS which really *is* all about rocket jumping, and crazy unrealistic stuff?

Not that I'm not looking forward to this, but it seems like there's an opening for an almost Rez style FPS.

I am hot for this game. Especially since Enemy Territory was and still is the best multiplayer fps EVAR.

What platform(s) will it be on?
  • Errol #17 6 years ago

Only 24 players maximum ? hmmm.
  • peak_performance #18 6 years ago

No, 32 players maximum. Well not maximum per se, servers can have as have players as they want (meaning if the computers can handle it) but the game is optimised for 24-32 players.
