No PS2 Liberty City Stories for a while, says Rockstar

Probably after Table Tennis.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories won't be out on PlayStation 2 until at least the end of May, Rockstar reckons.

Speaking to Eurogamer today, a spokesperson said "it's looking like it'll be released after Table Tennis", Rockstar's first Xbox 360 title, which is due out on May 26th.

Rockstar hadn't previously specified a date for Liberty City Stories - a conversion of the successful PSP title of the same name - but sources in retail were expecting the game in late April.

Liberty City Stories takes players back to the city that played host to Grand Theft Auto III, and also adds multiplayer modes - although Rockstar's been coy about specifics on the PS2 version, other than to say that it'll probably retail for less than full-priced GTA games have in the past.

As soon as we have a concrete date, we'll let you know.

But isn't it just a port of GTA3?!? Which you can already get.... im confused :-(
  • peterfll #2 6 years ago

Yes, but they need the cash to pay for all the law suits.

No, it's a different story, set some years before GTA3.

Not sure about the table tennis comment though. Surely Rockstar can stretch to developing and releasing 2 games in a small window?

Anyway, don't even though if I'd bother getting this. Loved GTA3, but I'm not sure how many more 'drive here/kill them/collect this/escort them' missions I could take, especially after the recent spate of GTA clones.

From my personal exprience of playing it LCS isnt really worth it. It just seems stale and boring.

The multiplayer in the PSP version showed SO MUCH potential. The only problem was, it pointed out who the other players were, and the most basic mode was deathmatch. Why couldn't they have put a co-op mode in?!

And no one can talk of a port of a port
That is, of course, unless the port is the famous LCS!

    Wow, it almost works.
Cheers seesthroughall for the inspiration. :)

Is anyone actually waiting in anticipation for this game...if so just contact me and send me your money. Save you the wait and I'm sure I can find a better use for it.

If its a straight port, it will flop on its arse as the mission structure really wouldnt suit. Plus after San An, the content is not in the same league.

As a handheld, I had immense fun with LCS. 10 minutes here doing the scrapyard challenge, 10 minutes there doing Noodleboy..... it was perfect for 10 minute blasts and it had a lot of blasts to offer. Home consoles would need significantly more depth.

Im not surprised they have delayed it because they will need to totally rework the mission structures, add extra content and re-vamp the city. Like I said, if they released it as a straight port with tarted up graphics they would deserve a flop.

It's a kind of prequel, expect the same for Vice City and San Andreas.

getting to work on ps3 it seems :p

It's highly improbable that GTA LCS for the PS2 is in fact a port from the PSP. It would look miserable. I think Rockstar developed from the first place LCS for the PS2 and then a simplier convertion to the PSP. It's easier. Converting PS2 to PSP isn't that hard i suppose. Greetings.

If its really going at a lower price then other games, I might just pick it up.
Not having played LSC and losing my GTA III makes it attractive to pick it up, just to gain acces to Liberty City again.

How come Rockstar get away with re-hashing games, but if when EA does theres uproar?
  • Feanor #17 6 years ago

  • Shadar #18 6 years ago

Because Rockstar hasn't based their entire business model on it?

    Oh, wait ...

So the one PSP game I'm curious about comes to my home console. Saves me 150+ bones. Cheers R* :).

Rockstar rehashing is just as bad as EA. The difference is, Rockstar makes GOOD games (most of the time).

And this GTA is supposedly being released at a reduced price (probably same price as a Platinum game).

but I think I've become a little sick of the GTA games now. I got the feel for a GTA style game where car physics is done properly (Driver: Parallell Lines) and would want the next proper GTA sequel to have car physics that are as fun to drive as in the Driver games.
  • coojam #21 6 years ago

Why can't they make a game with the car physics of Toca, the on-foot physics of Max Payne, the exploration of Oblivion and the story of Final Fantasy. Surely it would simply be a case of paying the right people the right amount of money and voila, a perfect game.
