God of War 2 for PS2

First we've heard of it!

Sony's working on a second God of War game for PlayStation 2 according to an article in US magazine Game Informer. We are amazingly surprised and shocked to discover this!

Scans of the article, which includes all sorts of shots and stuff, are circulating already. The game is due out early next year in the US and is in development at Sony's Santa Monica studio. A PAL release should follow quite soon after the American one.

In it, you'll continue to encounter and battle various figures straight out of Greek mythology, take advantage of an improved climbing combat system, claim Icarus' wings, ride Pegasus, and earn various special powers and magical abilities.

I want a good reason why this is not coming out on PS3 too. They've just lost a PS3 launch sale...

" here's hoping they manage to make the rest of the game good this time rather than just the first hour."

i thought the first hour was one of the worst bits...apart from searching for the hydras in the sandstorm. that was pony.

Holy mother of Kratos ! Good to know that SONY will still support PS2 with such titles in 2007.

"I want a good reason why this is not coming out on PS3 too. They've just lost a PS3 launch sale..."

...unless God of War 3 is in production for PS3 (similar situation as with killzone 2/3). Another option is that they don't plan to release PS3 any time soon:)
  • kalel #13 6 years ago

Think about it, why wouldn't tis be a lunch title for PS3? Could it be...that it will come out before the PS3?

So, has Sony finally allowed you to publish info on GOW2 or is this page going to disappear as the first one?

Yet another indirect confirmation from sony emphasing the fact of the PS3 missing 2006 as the launch year
  • tengu #16 6 years ago

Or that Sony aren't dropping the PS2 like a problem it could do without after their new console comes out.

In 2007 there'll be what, 2 milions of PS3 out there? and 100 millions of PS2: now, let's try to guess why it's on PS2... :)
  • drumbaby #18 6 years ago

Nice to see the PS2's still getting a lorra lorra love.

cartman: This story is just based on what Game Informer wrote. Although we didn't break any laws, the hassle involved in re-publishing probably isn't worth it. But at least now you can see what we wrote was true :)

    zomgzomgzomg excitement is me!
  • cartman #21 6 years ago

rauper: Was there anyone who thought that the original story was a fake?
The fact that Sony asked you to remove the story automatically (at least for me) confirmed that EG was correct.

Although I want to see the PS3 as much as the next person, I think it's great that the PS2 is still seeing such strong support. It shows that making games that are fun is still the best marketing strategy. If only MS would take that lesson instead of taking a dump on Xbox 1 fans. I used to play Xbox nearly exclusively until this year. My friend bought a PS2 for guitar hero I've been discovering some excellent games like God of War (feels like a hybrid of Prince of Persia and Ninja Gaiden, which were great on Xbox). If the sequel is as good as the first one it doesn't matter which platform it comes out on.

This along with Onimusha 3 is the only game on the ps2 that has held my interest long enough to actually complete it.'Twas brilliant, and had a sex mini game chucked in too for an added bonus.
  • absolutezero #24 6 years ago

This better be ever more BRUTAL and MINDLESSLY ANGRY as the first. Or I just wont know what to do with myself.
  • pingu #25 6 years ago

God of War is rumoured to have taken donkeys to make in the first place, so it makes financial sense to slap the sequel out using the same tech & art pipeline, especially given the fact that the first one rocked and sold well.

No doubt there'll be a ps3 version / franchise at some point...

    My first "meh".

God that annoys me when other people do it, so I am sorry.

What?? No threat of legal action on them??
  • admir #28 6 years ago

for all i care the ps3 can come out in 2years. iam happy to see that sony still supports the ps2, not like nitendo, and also i played a demo of okami and it will be a great game.

Nintendo is still bringing it's first party games to the NGC, they diden't drop it, everybody else did.
Zelda: Twilight Princess is still comming, remember? A HUGE title.
  • admir #30 6 years ago

yeah the only one since the GC came out and name one other game that will be as huge as Zelda:TP. geuss what there is none. they droped the GC since it came out. sony is doin a great job supporting the ps2 this year. Iam also getting tierd of mario, zelda, metroid. come on its time to let them die and bring new games.

It has been said about 20 times already, but GOOD TO SEE SUPPORT FOR PS2. It makes ssense for Sony since there are 100 million out there - unlike both the GC and the XBox. I just played Black and now know that current gen will live happily alongside next gen for quite a while.
  • Triggerhappytel #32 6 years ago

I must admit; I can't help feel this would make a killer PS3 launch title (a game which would sell the console on it's own, like Halo or Mario 64), but I am also glad to see Sony supporting the PS2 well into 2007. GOW was a superb game (my second fave of last year) and I'd love to see a proper sequel. It sounds like they are adding a lot of features which had to be cut from the first game due to time constraints (as seen in the 'Making Of' documentary on the disc), so the ideas will have probably been hovering around for two or three years already.

What with the likes of this, Shadow of the Colossus, Dragon Quest, FFXII, Toca 3, Katamari and Black, I really have no desire to go next-gen for the forseeable future.
  • Freek #33 6 years ago

What the hell are you talking about "the only one since the NGC came out"?
What, you missed all the first party content Nintendo putt out soince launch, every single title passed you by?
