Ubi dates BG&E/POP for Xbox/Cube

What the hell did I just type?

Having been booted into reconfirming its European plans for Beyond Good & Evil and Prince of Persia once already this month, Ubisoft announced to nobody's surprise this evening that both critically acclaimed titles will be making their way to Xbox and GameCube in the first quarter of 2004.

All that remains to be revealed is precise release dates, and fortunately we do now have one - for Prince of Persia at least. According to Ubisoft's release, we can expect to see Cube and Xbox versions of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time on retailers' shelves from February 27th, with Beyond Good & Evil appearing on both formats in early March 2004.

It's certainly exciting news for fans of those formats, given that Beyond Good & Evil was one of the most disarmingly beautiful and arresting videogame experiences of 2003 and Prince of Persia was even better.

As its already out in Europe for PS2 (so presumably all the languages are sorted), I really don't understand this delay - unless it's down to the Sony exclusivity deal (?).

I've been playing these for the past few weeks on my modded xbox, having imported them. These NTSC games seem to run just fine in PAL 50 mode. What exactly IS there for Ubi to convert between now and Feb/Mar?

Yup it's down to that stupid Sony exclusivity deal. Now that helped sales loads didn't it.

So what's the heads up on the price they are hardly going to go for full price now with these two selling for peanuts on the PS2.

I hate this 'exclusive deal' stuff. having been a pc gamer for sometime, this is all very new to me that I now own an xbox. If anything, it stops me wanting to buy the game, i've already played PoP on my mates ps2 (although only parts) and feel that I'll probably spend my hard earned cash on something new and fresh at the time these 2 games come out.

Played Prince of Persia on my PC, but if you haven't got a PC with the raw power to show all that graphical beauty, then definitely get it on XBox or GameCube.

FFS I thought it was supposed to be 31st Jan - this has REALLY pissed me off. I got some GAME vouchers waiting to be used on these 2 games, but the way it's going I might just buy some other tripe to quench my gaming thirst. Fuck Exclusivity deals!!

They might be good, but releasing as exclusives on PS2 is the same as a "no buy" from me. Plenty of other games to play. I might be missing out, but I am a man (?) of principle ;)

Someone please correct me here, but online retailers seem to be going for full price on these versions. Even more incentive to buy them, eh?

According to Gameplay's listings, PoP will be the full £40 while BG&E will be a slightly-reduced £30. Both are selling at slightly less than this RRP on most sites.
