Activision responds to CoD2 fans

Anti-cheat solution on the way.

Activision has responded to Call of Duty 2 fans who threatened to shut down servers by embarking on a 24 hour strike.

In a statement issued to Eurogamer, the publisher said: "After 2 years of non-stop work on Call of Duty 2, Infinity Ward has just returned from a much-deserved break. The team is aware of some concerns about multiplayer cheating in the game and is looking into an anti-cheat solution.

"Stay tuned for new updates and we'll be sure to keep you posted as soon as we can."

The strike was called by CoD2 fan ButchCassidy, who wrote on a fansite forum: "We request here and now that either Activision or Infinity Ward make an official announcement regarding their future support for the Call of Duty series of games on or before 16th December 2005."

But will this be enough to prevent the strike? Well, at the time of writing it was still set to kick off on December 17th, so we'll just have to wait and see...

    "Much deserved break'

I probably sound like an a-hole of the first order, but couldn't they just delay their holidays for a week or so to curb any online issues?

I can do better then that:

How about taking a holliday after the game is actaully finished?

they need to fix the online part of the x360 version. it has potential but only 8 players, lag to end all lag, no friend invites, no team carry overs etc. crap that the word for it.

Yep, while they're at it, can they please fix the shoddy LIVE mode on the 360 version? 8 players is a joke.

If you want developers to only take a holiday when all your issues with the release have been satisfied, then you should let the developers decide when to make the release. The poor guys actually doing the grunt work would have been working every hour possible in the lead up to the release that they, probably, had very little actual say in deciding upon.

I can't believe people are seriously slating somebody for taking some time off just because it affects a 'game' that they are playing. Get a life people.

Whoah, I surprise myself by siding with the whiners. Eight players in a cutting-edge FPS *is* a goddamn joke. I thought the 360 was going to handle 32 or so, at least.

In my day, 3 players in a Doom deathmatch via daisy-chained serial cables was quite respectable.

.::: Forget the strike, what about the abysmal Live-integration in the X360 version! That's far more pressing imo.

Am I the only one thinking it's odd the *whole* company going on holiday for a while? Plus, at my company, we've got people still working on support for games we released a year ago, and we're no Infinity Ward.

You would think that within those two years they would have built in Punkbuster before the game was released. After all the first COD had cheats released before the game was offically released and the devs had to patch punkbuster in at a later date.

    Some people never learn.

Hopefully while they are fixing the anticheat they could also fixed the serious bugs to. After all I only took me 20 minutes to find 3 serious bugs during a lan match on the PC.

I understand why the devs have taken a holiday after all they are treated like slaves.

...it was a bit unfair of the community but nobody can complain now....but thing is with these things...kids /trolls tend to carry on the momentum when theres nothing left to complain about.

"how can you shut down servers by not using them?"

You can't. However, much of the CoD2 community supported this action, and shut their own servers down. The number of servers closed down was over 1500, iirc.
