New Castlevania given US date

Curse of Darkness imminent.

Importing types take note: Konami's said that Castlevania: Curse of Darkness will be released on PS2 and Xbox on November 1st in the USA.

Curse of Darkness follows Hector, a former disciple of Dracula, as he seeks revenge. Lovely. He used to be a Devil Forgemaster, apparently, which ought to give him a decent working knowledge of Dracula's crumbling castle. The game's been designed by the same folks who worked on Castlevania: Lament of Innocence.

Sadly us European types will have to wait until the first quarter of 2006 to get our hands on the PAL version, but if you're a bit of a servant of Konami's dark ones then you could always pick up the DS version, Dawn of Sorrow, which came out over here recently.

Our review of that will be going up later this week. In fact, we're busy playing it at the moment and, without spoiling things too much, it's bloody brilliant - and having the map permanently displayed on the top screen is one of those things that might sound dull on paper, but actually proves to be hugely convenient to the way you play it.

Hope this keeps the atmosphere of 'Vania LOI but improves alot on its exploration.

They could just post up my review ;-)

Not that it'd be better. It'd just be cool ;-)

Let's hope it is not the N64 deja vu.

I don't think Dawn of Sorrow is perfect - there's a few issues I really deeply wish they could have expanded on - but the game is still bloody brilliant.

As said, the map on top sounds like a "meh", but seriously, it's a total godsend and the best use of the dual-screens so far for me. Meant I wasn't every few minutes trying to bring up the map, wondering where I was going... genius idea.

Though I would like to shoot the person who dreamed up the seals idea... not necessary, not clever and a bit of a waste of time I think...

This sounds ace. Do you get to unlock Justin Hawkins as a playable character?

And having just enjoyed Aria of Souls is it worth getting a DS for Dawn of Sorrow? They sound similar with the soul collecting (but it was a very cool idea).

I was quite interested in this, but the last video I saw looked terribly ropey. But I can't remember which video it was, or why I was unimpressed. :-)

Lament of Innocence was fun for about an hour and then it just became dull. Too repetitive. And also some of the bosses were waaay too easy.

They really need to do more with the story. There's a lot more potential there than they make use of.

I bought Dawn of Sorrow on a whim and I can't stop playing it.

I don't have any knowledge of the older Advance versions as the last one I played was the Haunted Castle in the arcades. But what I can say is I've stopped playing my other DS games.
