EA confirms three DS launch titles News

DS News by Tom Bramwell

12 October, 2004

Tiger Woods PGA Tour, The Urbz: Sims in the City and Madden NFL 2005 will all be available alongside the Nintendo DS hardware from November 21st in the USA, publisher Electronic Arts announced on Monday.

Tiger Woods, probably the game the average EG reader is most interested in, will feature wireless multiplayer support for up to four players, and a swing meter on the touch-screen that measures the strength of the shot as you move the stylus along a curve.

In total we can expect five licensed courses and one fantasy course to play around, all borrowed from previous console versions, and legendary golfers including Vijay Singh and Jack Nicklaus lining up alongside Woods himself.

The Urbz (screenshots) will be largely based on the console versions due out next month, but will also feature 24 objects, seven characters, five mini-games and five pets exclusive to the Nintendo handheld version. Good news for fans of The Sims.

Finally, Madden NFL 2005 (screenshots), which is understandably drawing a lot of attention in the US press, will boast 3D visuals, head-to-head wireless multiplayer, and a touch-screen interface for selecting plays, kicking the ball and judging where everyone is on the field.

EA is also working on GoldenEye: Rogue Agent and Need For Speed Underground titles for the DS, although neither will appear at launch. Instead, expect them to turn up within the first few months.

Other DS titles expected to appear at launch include Super Mario 64 DS, Feel the Magic: XY-XX, Spider-Man 2 and Ping Pals.

Although these games are about exciting as watching scottish football it does bode well for the future of the DS. At launch it'll have a good set of games for the mainstream crowd, at least one classic Nintendo game for the fanbois and one title that could be truly original in the form of Feel the Magic. Only time will tell...

Just watched a bit of video from Tigers over at ign. Cant really tell the quality of the graphics from the vid, but looks nice. The playability should be great with the touch screen.
