NWN2 toolset next week

For pre-orders in US/Europe.

Atari and Obsidian are set to release the Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset a month ahead of the game's release in October.

That's providing you pre-order it now from "selected retailers" - the offer's active now in both the US and Europe.

As well as advance access to the toolset, which allows you to create your own game modules (and, well, virtually your own entire games), you'll also receive "The Merchant's Friend", which is "a special feature enabling players to obtain powerful items crafted especially for each of the 12 classes".

The toolset's set to be made available online in five days' time to those with a pre-order unlock code, and you can keep an eye on the countdown at Atari.com.

For more on Neverwinter, have a poke around our toolset-focused preview.

Man, who the hell will buy the game if he already got Aurora (is it still called like that?), which is the reason one buys NWN2 in the first place? NWN1's main campaign was extremely shallow and dull, because it was just an example of what can be done with the toolset. As is this iteration. The core of the "game" is its toolset which provides you with all that you need to re-create your p'n'p campaigns or fire up a persistent world in which you- again- replay your favourite p'n'p campaigns.
That's what I'm looking forward to the most, when I hear NWN: Playing loads of modules- most of which will be much better than the single player campaign- and probably write my own campaigns in it.
It's an application for christ's sake, not a game!

meh, I've always been of the opinion that releasing a toolset with NWN gave them the excuse to make a thoroughly shoddy game.

Hoping obisidan arent as crap as Bioware these days.

But one of the things they're really pushing with NWN2 is how the single player is going to be a vast improvement over NWN1 - more like Baldur's Gate. If they can get that right (which they should given who's on the team) AND have the option of all those user created modules there's every reason to get excited about this release.

I think you will still need to buy the game so you can play the mods thats you create. I do understand where you're coming from, i'm still playing NWN mods now and its been out for years. I think the tool set has an import option so you can import all your old NWN mods and then improve the graphics with it.
