More Enemy Territory details

Quaking in its bootcamps.

id Software and developer Splash Damage have shed some light on the next instalment to their first-person shooter line-up, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.

The PC title will be powered by the DOOM III engine, but taking place across a number of varied environments, including outdoors, with potentially jungle and desert regions in the offering.

The combination of the game's setting (it takes place during the conflict between the Earth Defence Force and evil Strogg alien invaders) and use of its previously announced megatexture technology ("The whole planet's one big texture!"), will allow a variation of properties across its levels to change the way a player interacts with its environment. For example, sand creates problems for land vehicles but is quiet to walk on, while asphalt provides more noise but better traction.

Based on id and Raven's impending Quake 4 (in case you couldn't guess by the subtitle), Enemy Territory: Quake Wars has yet to get a release date. We'll keep you posted.

i don't tend to care about the sound of footsteps when playing quake games...

Just to aviode confusion, this isn't the singleplayer standard boring old Quake 4, this is the awsome looking Battlefield like multiplayer only version, a seperate game and the footage looked WAY better then that of the standard Quake 4 singlplayer/deathmatch.

What does Meh actually mean? Is it just to represent a sharp exhalation?

If I am going to be reading it 700 times a day on these pages I should probably find out.

"this isn't the singleplayer standard boring old Quake 4"

Boring old Quake 4? Did I miss a release date, or could that perhaps be a huge assumption?

Meh is a verbal *shrugs shoulders*. Pretty much means an indifference to something, and nothing to do with this -> http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Meh

    I wish i had a job

Quake 4 is looking verry underwelming, just pointing out this isn't that game but a different one, wich did look cool.

    > The PC title will be powered by the DOOM III

    really! :)

Splash Damage really hit nail on't head with Vulfie:ET, if this game
    sports a well-balanced MP gameplay system like ET then I don't give a monkey's if it's based on Quake4 or Quake40.

"and nothing to do with this -> http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Meh"

Well you say that, but perhaps drumbaby was simply stating his ability to act as a "provider of milk". Sort of like some cyberspace milk monitor who comments on texture engines whilst collecting money and putting ticks in his book.

The Evil Strogg! Oooo that name has me quaking (getit) in my boots.

Really, I mean that hardly conjures up an image of evil alien beasts intent on human annihilation. More like a kiddies soft drink full of flavourings and preservatives that claims to be good for them.

Quake 4 looks underwhelming? From the videos I've seen of the Q4 MP test at Quakecon 2005, it looks absolutely awesome. And I don't doubt Raven's ability to craft an exceptional singleplayer campaign.

"Really, I mean that hardly conjures up an image of evil alien beast"

Well put, when you phrase it like that it does kind of sound like the villain out of some breakfast cereal advert on TV.

"And I don't doubt Raven's ability to craft an exceptional singleplayer campaign."

I'm with you there. Raven's long history is mostly paved with gold. And for me gameplay takes priority over GFX (though amazing visuals are always nice too if we can have both).

The mp for quake 4 looks pretty decent, if you like quake dm based games.
Looking forward to Quake Wars aswell, though I don't have much interest in a Quake SP game these days.
  • kangarootoo #15 7 years ago

I'm kind of hoping that the time away will have given the Quake SP a few fresh ideas (figuratively speaking of course, as the team may not contain any of the same members). Sort of like I'm hoping the same for Unreal 3 ('cos UR2 wasn't much cop really IMO, and GFX alone don't maketh the man/woman).

I did enjoy E.T. but this one... I don't know... theres something thats not getting to me, maybe its the setting... but in any case my pc will be dead to this type of games...

RIP my Geforce 4 MX Go

I'm still playing ET daily for well over a year and a half, looking forward to this one, if they keep the well balanced, class based, gameplay.
  • ali-uk #18 7 years ago

WolfET was awesome, this looks to be as good for sure.
  • Xerx3s #19 7 years ago

Hmmm, perhaps i will be buying both installments. Kinda depends because i thought q3 was crap. I do like the films of it that ive seen this far, you know, all the massive warfare and such going on around you.

Ahh well, time will tell if this turns out to be any good. *fingers crossed*

So long as they keep the objective based, Assault type gameplay from the original ET I'll be happy.

If they start doing the whole ticket drain stuff that BF2 does I'll be really upset
