The Ship released on Steam

The other way around, surely?

The Ship is now available to purchase through Steam.

Dubbed a "massively mysterious thriller," The Ship is the first title from Scottish start-up Outerlight - and sees the player taking part in a multiplayer game of hunt and hunted onboard the titular ship.

The idea is that you've been invited there by Mr X, the ship's owner, and must secretly track and eliminate specified passengers without being tossed overboard in a casket yourself.

The Ship is available exclusively through Steam, Valve's digital distribution service, for now, and costs $19.95.

Mindscape recently announced plans to release a boxed version of the game in Europe this September.

We'll have a full review soon. Details of the game and how to get it can be found on the game's official website.

Oh, I thought the Steam version was due in September as well.

    Will EG do a review?

Saw this in Edge and GamesTM and it looked like good fun.

    Review please!

Absolutely, need a review before playing this. Or a demo.

Sounds very interesting, never played the original.

Add another to the review or demo list.

Sounds quite cool. Some of the game mechanics sound a bit like the sims, wonder if that'll be a good thing or not (poo & pee?! in a first person shooter? hope it's not too graphic). Could be quite bizarre if you're chatting away to someone, only for them to suddenly get snipped from afar. o_O

Played a little last night. 20 mins play was enough to make me decide it'd be more fun to reinstall Windows instead so I did that. Maybe it's a grower.

Once you get into the pace and ideas behind the game then it becomes alot of fun, it'll also make you paranoid. I was constantly clocking people and afraid to go into corridors alone.

One time I was waiting for an elevator got in thinking I was safe only for my hunter to nip in just as a doors closed and axed me in the head.

Other times I've closed myself in a room with someone and pulled out a shotgun, watching them squirm and try to hide is amusing.

This is a sick sick game.

The Ship is reviewed in the new episode of consolevania. Its pretty glowing, apart from it was the beta they were reviewing so there were some glitches etc. Still it says something that even with some of the problems they still liked it alot.

One of those games that makes me wish I had a gaming computer. Looks really interesting and different, would love to read a EG review.

Is this a multi player only game, or is their a single player part that is any good. I really don't get much enjoyment from multi player games these days.

well going by their site there's a single player game against bots, although it doesn't sound like this is what they're really selling. Surely one of those games where the real fun comes from human opponents who are far less predictable.

Played for a few hours this morning. Great game, but pretty bug riddled right now. I've has graphical weirdness (purple-check dancefloor anybody?), but the most frustrating thing is the server connections keep breaking every 10 mins or so, chucking everybody out. Needs patching but has potential for lots of fun.

I was looking on the official forums last night about this game. There were lots of complaints about bugs and AI 'bots' and passengers being thick as shit or just plain broken. Some said the game was unbalanced and needed lots of work, and there were complaints that finding a good server where people were playing properly was a struggle. It certainly looks interesting, but the need for your character to go to the toilet, sleep and play games inbetween assassinating your target is a bit off-putting.

I think a lot of innovative online games will always be wrecked by people that don't want to abide by the rules or play within the spirit of the game. Hopefully a few fixes and improvements along the way will stop this kind of thing happening to the Ship and other online games that dare to be a bit different.
