Call of Duty coming to PSP

War in the palm of your hand.

Having already surprised us with the news that the latest Call of Duty game will not be appearing on PC, Activision has dropped another bombshell in the shape of a dedicated game for Sony's PSP.

Despite the fact that the game has not appeared on the E3 show floor, Activision's official new product release list details "Call of Duty 3 PSP," which is thought to be a working title for the curiously unannounced game.

According to those ever informative Internet Reports, the handheld version will not be a port of the next-gen console games, suggesting that Activision has something special in mind for the PSP version. Representatives for the company are keeping tight-lipped on the whole thing for now, though.

The big question is who's going to be taking care of it of course, and if reports denying a link to Infinity Ward are correct, the logical choice would be Treyarch, who have already been confirmed as the developer for all console versions.

We'll keep you updated on any further developments as soon as we hear more.

Now... I love WWII shooters, and I adore CoD... but what the hell? Who in their right mind thinks this will be any good? The PSP should just stick to what it's good at - and that is not FPS'.

Just please don't make it a PC-style FPS. Please!

A top-down Killzone: Liberation game would probably be nice, or if it was done in a Metroid Prime/Maken X/Breakdown style with a lock-on function, or, or, or... well anything other than an attempt at shoehorning PC FPS style gameplay onto the PSP.

    /Crosses fingers.

I'd like a nice PSP FPS but I think it's a tricky thing to pull off. Heck, the GBA did it with Doom so there's not reason the PSP can't.

Doom only had one axis. Plus anything in your crosshair tended to die when you pressed the button, so very little aiming was needed.

    This will probably suck :(

"Maybe they could just double up on the single analogue, aim by holding L or something? Mightn't be too bad."

Well, that would make it like Resi 4.
    Hmmmmmmm........

Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex was a good PSP FPS once you adapted to it. Which is not to say it was really good or anything, but it was eminently playable and fun. And scores a big thermoptic bonus for being Ghost In The Shell. However, Call of Duty, and all other WWII games, can go to hell. Done and done and done to death. What is it about WWII?
