GRAW 2 details, platforms

Ubi releases info and assets.

Ubisoft has shed some more light on Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, revealing that the squad-based shooter sequel is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and PlayStation Portable.

It's due out in spring 2007, and will see the Ghosts upgraded with better AI, new Cross-Com features and expanded support as they take to new battlefields - including some in the US.

You can see how Ubisoft's development teams in Paris and at series mainstays Red Storm are doing in first screenshots and a teaser trailer.

Like the first GRAW, next year's sequel will focus on events in Mexico in 2014, as conflicts between loyalists and insurgent rebels escalates into civil war. The Ghosts will be called upon to tackle enemies in mountainous terrain, in the desert and even in El Paso, Texas - with what Ubisoft's describing as a cross-border attack to fend off.

Graphically the sequel can be expected to ramp up the already impressive effects quotient, with changing weather systems. Curiously there's no real emphasis on multiplayer improvements in Ubisoft's announcement - but given the first GRAW's online popularity, you can expect them to feature heavily in the final game.

Of significance to players both online and off will be the improved AI, which will see enemy teams trying to flank you or gain vantage points, while AI squad-mates will be more direct about their intel - specifying where the enemy is sighted and so on.

You'll also be able to call upon expanded air support for air strikes from jet fighters, mobile cover deployment and rearmament using an unmanned artillery MULE, with a new Media class improving your chances of healing one another under pressure.

Cross-Com 2.0 - an evolution of the first game's advanced heads-up display - will allow you to expand to full-view feeds of what your team-mates are seeing, while Full Command View will allow for greater precision in tactics.

Expect more on GRAW 2 as we move into 2007.

Didn't like the first one. I returned it days after trying to, lol, perhaps i'm a picky gamer?

loved the first game and enjoyed the online far more that R6: Vegas. People I shot in GRAW online die, while people I shot in the face on R6: Vegas live and shot me dead :(

will they have face mapping and the ability to cover in multiplayer this time?

I loved every minute, not least because of the stylized graphics which astound to this. day. Too bad my new 8800 GTS is insistent on fucking up every game I own, so this is coming just in time. (yeah right, pains of early adoption and NVidia's always-beta drivers....)

By the way, I like the black and white cross-com feed. Making it full-view will render it indistinguishable from the default view.

So Talha, are you saying that your graphics card that cost as much as my 360 doesn't have a Backwards Compatability list?

A new Media class? Do you possibly mean Medic? Or is this some kind of media studies student with magic healing powers?

@Rambaldi: Shut your face you sick bastard! ;-)

OK well, thats basically what I am saying. I have upgraded 5 graphics cards uptil now and with none of those I had these issues. Hell, there is not even such a THING as back-compat for 3D cards.

I guess that with the glorious tradition of missing features (AA and HDR not mutually compatible on 7 series anyone?) and incredibly buggy drivers, now NVidia have added another feather in their cap by giving rise to compatiblity issues with likes of Splinter Cell etc, with close cooperation by Ubisoft who are in a similar pioneering spirit. In fact these days the race between the two is on: One moment Ubi are leading by releasing a patch for SCDA that fixes NOTHING and recomends adding numbers to the command line of the game's exe (yes thats true), and the next we find Nvidia racing ahead by releasing another broken driver.

And to think I just splashed $450 on the damned thing. Next they will be recommending an SLi setup to ensure full compatibiliy: a 7-series running on one and an 8-series running on another. Hey, that's just how the PS2 operated!!! These days a PC is a console is a PC is a piece of SHITE.

Well I guess that's just part of the red carpet welcome that PC gaming gives every person who is caught unawares.
