PGR4 in 2007 or 2008?

Peugeot, oddly, spills beans.

Microsoft's planning to release Project Gotham Racing 4 on Xbox 360 towards the end of 2007 or in the first half of 2008.

That's according to, er, Peugeot, of all people, who appear to have let the cat out of the bag as part of a design competition announcement.

The Peugeot Design Contest 2007 (4th edition) announcement invites people aged 14 and over to design a concept for a new car and submit it between October 6th and December 4th.

But it's this bit you'll care about:

"In addition, the winning concept car will be included by Microsoft in the Project Gotham Racing 4 game, exclusively on Xbox 360 that will be released towards the end of 2007 or first half of 2008. The future winner is hereby informed that he/she will not receive any remuneration for this."

Microsoft hasn't said anything about PGR4 to date, but since Bizarre Creations finished PGR3 for the Xbox 360 launch last November, the timing sounds about right.

Presumably we can expect an announcement in the near future. At X06, for example.

Microsoft hadn't responded to our request for comment at the time of publication. Mainly because we didn't give them time to. We're so unpleasant.

We'll let you know if they get back to us.

Actually MS have already said that forza an PGR will take turns releasing each year so Forza 2 early 07, PGR late 07/early 08, forza 3 late 08/early 09 etc

All is well but...Peugeot? I mean, is there is Peugout racing car in existence? Sure, I will have a Peugeot in WRC any day, but PGR is a different beast. I think the real beans spilled here are that Peugeout is to make a V-16 powered, 1200 bhp supercar. Eat that, Bugatti! ;-)

PGR3 is amazing, leave it alone for a few weeks and come back to it and be shocked by how good it looks (and more importantly feels thanks to the tuned gameplay and the perfect 360 controller).

PGR4 should address the few shortcommings of PGR3 and will be a masterpiece no doubt.

I bought my 360 for PGR3 and that along with Dead Rising shows that the "next gen" is here before Sony said it would be. This is of course running the games in HD on a decent 32"+ screen.

PGR3 is to 360 what PGR1 was on the original xbox, an amazing turn around and solid product in a very short amount of time for a new system.

PGR4 i suspect will see the leap that PGR2 took from PGR1, but from the perspective of 3.

    cant wait.

it should probably be more popular than it is tbh, i spose alot of ppl are put off by the near perfection in the handling, for cheaper games such as NFS or Test Drive.

    @Bill Door

that depends on the type of race, mixing style (or ineffiency as u'd call it) with a fast lap time is vital.

Aswell as the races that require only a fast lap time.

Theres enough variety for both aspects of racing.

Online is certainly an area wher quick efficent racing is required often.

Pug are back at Le Mans with a diesel prototype in 2007. There are the old Peugeot protos from the Group C days that could be used too.

The Peugeot 907 concept car from last year (I think) will probably make a PGR appearance.

@Wash: Near-perfect handling in PGR 3 putting people off? Honestly - I am lost for words. First, you need to redefine your criteria for near-perfect handling. Second, accurate handling doesn't put people off, it attracts. The only reason for the apparent lack of PGR popularity is the reletively thin installed base of X360, while 'cheap' games like NFS are avaliable on every conceivable platform.

    "Looks gorgeous, no tearing..."
Lol@ games getting recomendations for *lacking* graphical problems.

@Kostabi: Thanks for correcting me on that one. And I thought I was a car nut. My bad.

@ccfb: My feelings precisely. Some people on this thread seem to be MS reps in disguise.

I'd rather Peugeot gave us real Peugeot designed cars in PGR4, like LMP etc. than purely fantasy cars just to P.L.E.A.S.E me...

In fact why bother including a manufacture if all you get is some crappy concept - like in Forza with Seat (I think?)...

    @Talha

ohh by no means did i mean a simulation.. and i was talking in terms of relative popularity of the whole franchise, compared to the likes of sales of such classics as most wanted or some other pimp my tokyo drift too furious game on the market, soley based on xbox basis...

i'm sure if u pulled up the last NFS sales and PGR2 sales on the xbox there'd be a difference.

As i said Bill Door PGR certainly has aspects that require more extravagent racing, other bits not so much.

@Wash: OK Now I get you - and I truly respect you for not replicating the horrific tone of my original post in your response. Thing is, sometimes a lack of context can make something seem truly ridiculous.

Yes I agree with your comparison of NFS etc, but in your question lies the answer: NFS etc are easier to pick up and play and contain the requisite street/illegal/pimping elements to satisfy hordes of purple-haired teenagea game buyers. Games like PGR, or for that matter Forza or GT or FIA GT, are much harder to dig and carry a sense of purpose that may or may not appeal to every one.

That said, please try Most Wanted (PC or X360 version) and really dig into it - you might like it!

@Mapster: As far as I know, none of us used 'retarded' in our replies. Neither of us implied that PGR3 is less than a stunning graphical achievement. What we targeted was the tone of your post, which in all fairness did sound like a sales pitch. I guess if that makes us 'retarded', then fine.

    @Talha

I'd agree that other games are more accessible, i've always put PGR in the middle somewhere, with NFS at one end and games like GTR taking up the other end of the scale.

I spose playing PGR/MSR for the last 7yrs or wotever it is when msr was released has made the transition through the games alot easier, making its accessibility very subjective.

As for the graphics, vry nice.. but i think they could be better :$, heat haze or bolts i wont ever look at could have been used elsewhere.... like weather, or varying times of day. Remember on the old MSR with real time time tracking giving u an approriate light of sky dependant on the time of that area... or number plates u can take on live.... or bring some back of the noddy cars they were fun, not that 180+ aint, just some silly stuff to break up the nuts on live.

Why not include a concept car if you have the chance?? Everybody always wonders what they'll drive like, now you have the chance to test it out in the game.
  • captainrentboy #16 6 years ago

Only one thing bugged me about PGR3,just one,and I didn't even take much notice of it until it was pointed out on some shitty forum. The bloody jaggies! They're friggin everywhere.I loved everything else in the game though.

Talha: Peugeot racing cars (not exhaustive by any means)

    Peugeot HDi DPFS Prototype
    Peugeot 905 Race Car
    Peugeot 207 RCup
    Peugeot 206 WRC
    Peugeot 307 WRC
    Peugeot 405 T16
    Peugeot 205 T16

    + over 5 years in F1
  • Talha #18 6 years ago

@secombe: Thanks a lot man - please read my earlier comment. Of course I am aware of their legacy in WRC, but I didn't know about the other racing/F1 stuff.

  • sharpfish #19 6 years ago

@captainrentboy > The "Jaggies" is one of the things I meant when I said "few shortcommings" in my original post. I agree they should go, but obviously something had to give at that early stage in the consoles life to allow the rest of the gfx to be top quality.

Having said that it's mainly when walking around the garages and viewing cars that they are most noticable. While racing they do not present a problem to me as they are not as bad and the whole thing in motion looks good.

It's obvious when you take a photo that they put all the good stuff back on (AA etc) and you get stunning picture quality, maybe even sometimes in replays (Which can account for the minor slowdown only seen in replays). It is a balancing act and no game is perfect, we just have to accept that and remember how things used to be (on the ZX Spectrum for instance). I didn't see a single bit of colour clash on PGR3 ;)
