Enchanted Arms for PS3

Out this year in Japan.

From Software's RPG Enchanted Arms (Enchant Arm in Japan) is definitely on its way to PlayStation 3 after all, and should be out in the Far East by the end of the year.

Last week the developer was caught blathering about the possibility in Famitsu, but as you'll see if you hit the game's official website, it's definitely on.

Previously an Xbox 360 exclusive, Enchanted Arms is published in the UK by Ubisoft, and is a turn-based affair about directing creatures as a sort of enchanter-in-training over the course of an adventure Ubisoft claims takes about 50 hours to finish.

Speculation's been rife for a while that the game would make the switch to PS3, and it seems likely, given the announcement's timing, that From plans to show off a Sony version at next week's Tokyo Game Show ahead of the PS3's launch in Japan on November 11th.

I hadnt realised this was released here last friday - any good, eurogamer?
  • The_Programmer #4 6 years ago

Well, it'll still be exclusive in Europe - NO PS3's.

I never expected Enchanted Arms to be exclusive to the Xbox 360 anyway so the fact that it's coming to the PS3 is unsurprising.

What is surprising though is just how good Enchanted Arms actually is! Out of the five Xbox 360 games that I got this weekend, Enchanted Arms is the one that has kept me playing and playing and playing.... 26 hours in fact. I'm not knocking the quality of the other games - they're all exceptional - but I'll be damned if I can drag myself away from Enchanted Arms long enough to play any of them for more than a few hours!!! Yet Enchanted Arms was the game I expected to play the least!!! LOL

Unsurprising really, 360 owners yearn for JRPG... one that ticks every JRPG box on the design sheet gets average scores and likely wont sell much.

It'll be more appreciated in its homeland on the likely much larger install base of the ps3... when it launches.

Enchanted Arms may not be original but no way could it be considered average; it's far too good for that. The story is brilliant in my opinion and the translation is near-perfect as is the wonderful dialogue between the main characters. It's a joy to read/listen to and I'd even say the voice-acting is pretty decent as well; stereotypical yes but delivered in the correct manner and not deadpan like some cheaply made games.

The fact that FromSoftware have made this game so accessible over "hardcore" RPGs like the Final Fantasy games means that this is the most enjoyable Japanese RPG I've played since Grandia II or Skies of Arcadia... you can save anywhere, health is regenerated after every battle, there's an excellent Auto option if you tire of the constant random battles, a retry option if you die, plenty of Gollums to use... basically the game is designed in way that encourages you to keep playing it not put you off it as happened with me during Final Fantasy X once I was ten hours in.

@darren, i fully intend on purchasing it. regardless of wot the reviewers say... but frm their point of view tis average.

my point was, the game has everything everyone was asking for and ppl complain its not innovative enough. FF14 on the other hand will welcome rave reviews i bet for its innovation.

    Talk about an overhyped game.

"sigh.....does exclusivity mean nothing these days?"

Yes, it denotes the time periode in wich it takes to port the game over to another platform.

The fact that the Playstation 3 has to wait nearly a year in order to receive Xbox 360 games is very disappointing! This just goes to show you that the Xbox 360 is the leader in the world of high definition digital videogaming.

Enchanted Arms was released primarily with the Japanese market in mind; that is why it was released in Japan near the beginning of the year. The fact that the Playstation 3 will not see this game released in Japan until the end of the year really is a disappointment for anyone looking forward to the Playstation 3. The Xbox 360 version is already one of those games that has been reduced in price, because it sold well. Why spend twice as much money for the Playstation 3 version, when the games are virtually identical...well, except for the fact that the Playstation 3 version doesn't offer any rumble or vibration features.

Who in the world would want to play a boxing game, or a football game, or a hockey game, or so many other forms of game without a controller that rumbles or vibrates!

Yeah, they should have definitely released the PS3 version at the same time as the 360 game, despite the console not being available. o_O

    Still bitching about that eh?

If you check 1ups update on Resistance they said they didn't feel they were missing the rumble from the vibration because they were concentrating too much on the game.

    And football games don't vibrate.

Hmmm, I'm looking forward to playing Resistance but I think that lack of rumble while not spoiling the game in anyway will certainly be noticeable. Personally I like to feel a jolt as I fire weapons as it adds to the immersion plus I'm squeezing a trigger on the Xbox 360 pad doing so. I feel the lack of rumble in PS3 games will annoy me because it's not so much you notice when it's there, you notice it more when it ISN'T there!

And the Resistance developers would say that the lack of rumble isn't noticeable... they're hardly going to cast any negativity on their game or the PS3 itself, are they?

Enchanted Arms makes use of rumble to indicate how powerful the attacks are and it's very effective so I'd miss it in the PS3 version. Also Rockstar's Table Tennis game makes very clever use of rumble so it wouldn't work in the same way on the PS3.

Of course Resistance developers would say that but the 1up people previewing Resistance said they didn't notice the rumble. :p

You'll only miss it if you think about it, i switched off the rumble in some of my FPS games i missed it when i first switched it off but when i went back to it a couple of hours later i forgot that i deactivated the rumble and didn't feel any different.

Of course games that use the rumble smartly like Metal Gear Solid or Gran Turismo will feel that it's lost it's input but then it's replace with the motion sensor.

The only JRPG that i've ever owned that rumbled was FFX to emphasise the sheer power of the Aeons.... but the rumble was so violent I couldn't hold the controller for more than ten seconds.

It still would have sold really well. Kaz Hirai was right. Playstation 3 fanbois are idiots. :(
