Dead Rising DLC already

Eight free costumes.

Dead Rising is still nearly a month away from European release, but that hasn't stopped Capcom moving to capitalise on the game's US momentum with some quick-fire downloadable content.

But before you cry foul, it's good to note that it's entirely free and comes in the form of several "keys" - eight of which can be downloaded and used to unlock costumes hidden away in the game.

There are Miami Nights, Casual, Weekender, Round Shades, Burgundy, Grandpa, Pink Paparazzi and Man in Black keys.

Dead Rising is out now in the US and due to hit European store shelves on September 8th.

I don't really understand why this is on our Live, I mean we can't even play any of the versions of the game. Oh Capcom you dirty teases.

One day someone will come up with a useful idea for downloadable content... but probably not me, and probably not today.

    Free downloads = awesome.

Free key downloads to unlock stuff already in the game = punishing people who don't have broadband.

It's not even as if it's to persuade you to get Live these days, as I assume they'll be for free Silver Live accounts.

Unless I've grabbed hold of the wrong end of the stick. Which I admit is highly likely.

    > a useful idea for downloadable content

They're games, they're not meant to be useful, just entertaining.

I dunno. I remember something (it might have been the Xbox Castle Wolfenstein) where you had to download something that just unlocked stuff that was already on the disc; stuff you'd already paid for.

It gets me hot under my collar, I can tell you.

@dravenclarke there is a locked door in the demo (by the toilets) - to the maintenence tunnel so I dare say that's a key you find in game

"I imagine if they're already in the game there might be alternative ways of accessing them?"

I'd certainly hope so for those of us that don't use Live.

Wonga has a point. I've seen it in hi-def and it's clear as a bell. On a standard telly it's illegible. It's too late to have that addressed though.

    What small text where?

I'm playing on a 28" flat widescreen SDTV, and not had any problems thus far.

I don't quite understand this DLC, unless it's to make me look out for these specific items. "Hey, the red polka-dot bikini outfit is unlocked, I better go find that in the Bikini Shoppe!" I guess if it were in the game already, I wouldn't particularly care less unless I had a thing for fitting a polka-dot bikini to my manly frame. Beyond that, I'm struggling to see the point.

If the people complaining are those playing in RGB Scart or component, fair enough. However, if they're annoyed because they can't read the text with the wire out of the box, I have little to no sympathy. RF/composite quality images can't possibly hope to keep up with the level of visual fidelity offered by 360 and a better wire is an absolute essential.
