We Love Katamari to roll on Europe in early 2006!
EA makes balled move.
YAY! EA (a couple of words that don't always sit back-to-back) has just announced that it will co-publish We Love Katamari exclusively on PS2 in Europe in early 2006!
We Love Katamari is of course the sequel to Katamari Damacy. Like its predecessor, the idea is to roll a big adhesive ball around huge levels, gradually picking up bigger and bigger objects. Each level has a certain theme, and some specialise - so you might be picking up a lot of crabs, or acting as a sumo wrestler who simply grows fatter with every new object consumed.
We, like so many others with import PS2s, have been banging on about Katamari Damacy's brilliance for longer than most people care to tolerate. It's a pity that Europe missed out on the original game despite its release in the USA (or at least we have missed out for now; things can change) but the sequel certainly stands up on its own.
The game's creator, Keita Takahashi, sounds just as excited as we currently look. "At last, the time has come for our fans in Europe to enjoy We Love Katamari. I am so excited about this! Basically, this is a silly game that doesn't involve a whole lot of thinking, but if you will just laugh and sing along as you roll, roll and roll, I'm sure you will find it to be a lot of fun."
No need to put yourself down, sir! We loved Katamari Damacy and its sequel so much that we gave both versions very large scores even though we could only play them in Japanese at the time. In fact, you can already read a great deal about We Love Katamari on this very website, and we suggest you do. It's a game you're going to want to own in "early 2006" - whatever that translates to.

EA actually publish and co-publish quite a few games here that don't get EA'ised. Soul Calibur 2, Haunting Ground, Samurai Warriors all were co-published by EA and with some of them EA don't even get their names into the creds. They're evil...but sometimes EA are good.

Funny how EA would pick up an obscure(to us), quirky and very Japanese PS2 title for there roster, yet divert ALL promotional resources away from Oddworld Strangers Wrath because it's Xbox-only. It's obvious which has more sales potential..

Oddworld Inhabitants kinda Belong to EA the way that DICE and Criterion now do. Namco, Capcom and Koei just use thier QA and Publishing muscle to help get a release in Europe. EA don't have much else to do with those titles.

Yes, and it caught on. I'm just saying that it's against EA's nature to go for something that isn't a sure-fire success. Pokemon is an different prospect anyway.

I'm not really sure who EA see as the market here, the relatively small group of fans (thats not a criticism BTW, I'm just comparing to something like Burnout or Jax) who have raved about this, or the general game buying public who probably have't heard of it.
My point being that if EA see this as a general public product, I'm not sure the music will survive. Which would be a real pity 'cos the music is great.
Apologies if someone has made this point already, I'm too lazy to read all the posts at this time of night.

OMG!!! it would be just the same as a joystick!!!!

That's up to the developers.
EA don't really have a hand in that and no guidelines for it either (Soul Calibur had PAL60 and it had Japanese Voices on the other hand Samurai Warriors had neither)

Surprising that EA-thing. Too bad I don't have money or a PS2... Hopefully I'll convince someone to buy this.

You think a touchscreen with stylus is the same as a joystick??? Riiiight.
Or maybe you were saying there wouldn't be much of a difference to the game. Well, that's debatable. I think it'd be awesome to have a big katamari on the touchscreen, that you can 'roll' with the stylus, curving it, slowing it down.
