Starship Troopers enlist date

Demo fired up too.

A release date has been shot out for Empire Interactive and Strangelite's first-person shooter, Starship Troopers, with news of a playable demo on its way too.

The PC game, based on the 1997 movie (which itself is based, albeit tenuously, on the 1959 sci-fi novel) will get a full launch for retail inspection in the UK on October 26th, with a playable demo lined-up in a few short weeks - September 1st being mooted.

Empire currently says the demo will be single-player, although will confirm this and more details soon, so you can continue your daydream of stepping into Johnny Rico's bug-splattered shoes just that little bit longer. We'd do 'im.

If you want some bug-splatting action before then, have a go at the 'Antlion Troopers Deuce' mod for Half-Life 2...

Requires a pretty shit-hot machine, though.

    BUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGS!

The original Starship Troopers licence PC strategy title (2001?) was surprisingly good.

Would you like to know more?

This will be awful, British dev's and FPS dont really mix....and yes i include those POS Timesplitter 1,2.

Don't forget the 3'd in that series, and there's Perfect Dark and Goldeneye for FPS by british dev's, sureply proof that they don't mix, right.

I heard this was also coming to Xbox? Is that true?

HL2 totally ripped off the antlion swarming thing from Troopers. I hope this can do better - I loved the movie. Hopefully they'll keep the Nazi subtexts in there.

"Don't forget the 3'd in that series, and there's Perfect Dark and Goldeneye for FPS by british dev's, sureply proof that they don't mix, right." - Yer joking right? GE & PD are some of the best console shooters ever.

"Everything is a rip-off of everything."

Granted, but this seemed pretty blatant to me. Even the design of the antlions was frighteningly similar to the Bugs.

Of course, I might be biased because that was my least favourite level in HL2. I don't mind that it's derivative so much, as long as it isn't long and boring. Stupid... platform... jumping.

There was a PC game out some years back (like nearly 10 years I think). I was thinking it was called Hardwar, but that was some Elite type thing. Similar title.

Anyway, it was a 3rd person bttle game. Huge planetscape areas, loads of troops on both sides, alien bug like enemy. I remember thinking at the time that has a good ST feel to it. Lots of legging about, gunfire whizzing past you as other skirmishes take place around you.

Anyone who can remind me of the title can have a free day off work (just tell your boss I said it was OK).

    That'd be Outwars, wouldn't it?
