Fable's Lost Chapters find Xbox

PC redux of Xbox RPG coming to, er, Xbox.

Fable: The Lost Chapters will be released on Xbox as well as PC, Microsoft announced on Friday in a press release that got lost in the (e)mail.

Due out this September on PC, Lost Chapters is something of a "Director's Cut" that adds new regions, quests and some of those all-ambiguous "enhanced story elements" to the Big Blue Box/Lionhead-developed role-playing game, and will be released on Xbox in "late autumn".

Fable was originally an Xbox exclusive, of course, so it's not completely surprising to see this expanded edition wiggle its way back to the Microsoft format - although it's taken a while to confirm, after Lionhead master Peter Molyneux first hinted at the move back in April.

We've asked Microsoft whether existing Fable owners will be able to get the new content at a discount rate, perhaps via Live or somesuch, and hope to hear back later today.

Assuming they can't get it at a different rate, however, they'll have to pay £19.99 for The Lost Chapters package - same as everyone else. The game will cost just $19.99 in the USA.

    Wootage!

I'd happily pay £30 for it. I'll trade in Fable now too, and wait for this to come out before playing again.

Unbelievable. First buy the unfinished article, then buy it again when they get round to finishing it :o

    Hmm, me wants :D

"It would have been nice if this read: Halo 2 the lost chapters find Xbox
:-)" - Ever heard of the concept "open end"? It is used to continue the story line. You might be familiar to it, films such as Star Wars and books such as LotR used it. If halo 2 where to conclude there, then there would not be a halo 3. The story line is simply to large to stuff into one game. If they would do that, then it would be a crap game instead of the ace game that it is now.

Xerx3s - Halo 2 is a crap game. Well, crap may be too strong a word as it has some quality mechanics, etc, but the first is much better.

Well, it's not too much to pay, but an upgrade option would be nice... The question is - will save games from the current version work on the new one?! :p

Does it matter? Start again! :D

I thought every element was improved in the sequel.... graphics were vastly improved... gameplay mechanics were tweaked and added new elements like dual weilding and mounting vehicles. The only thing i didnt like was the ending, and that cos i wanted to play more... ho hum.

Now online is fully whiney idiots - so dont get me started :p

I think it is quite a fair price. However, at this end of the channel it'll probably cost double :(

When I bought this game, I had been looking forward to it for YEARS, only to finish it in seven hours... I had stocked up and was fully prepared for an entire weekend of constant gaming only to watch the final cutscene at about 2am on Saturday... soooo disappointing. I have learned my lesson and I will rent this new release (I will prolly only need to take it out for a day...)

Agreed, they spent to much time fiddling with stuff that didnt make it and not enough time creating rpg content. Still the short lived time i had with it was damn fun.

I find it odd that people complain that Fable is too short because they played it for the story yet will spend hours off mission in GTA.
  • Lutz #15 7 years ago

People REALLY annoy me when they say Fable was too short.

Will the framerate still be shocking?
Will they slow down the rate of aging?
Those were the two things that most bugged me most about the original, I'd probably still buy this mind, even if those two factors remain unchanged?

Assuming I still have an XBox when this is released.

I found the frame rate to be OK TBH, although it could get bad when you first entered a new section.

Aging is, IIRC, down to magic usage, so if you're aheavy user of magic, you age fast.

I don't think that comparisons between Halo 2 and The Empire Strikes Back are particularly apt. Whilst Empire did have an open ending it also worked as a complete story in itself - at the end of the film the characters' emotional arcs were complete and whilst certain things were left hanging that was because what happened next was another story. Halo 2 doesn't suffer just because of its open ending, it does so because the plot was poorly structured. In the first game you can feel the ending coming - when you are on the last level you know it's the last level. My personal experience of Halo 2 was that the ending was rather abrupt - I had no idea that I was fighting the final boss until I defeated him and the plot just stopped.
