2006 FIFA World Cup demo

Just a half.

FIFA foes fumbling for reasons to change their mind about EA's "is it good this week?" football series might want to check out a new demo of the World Cup edition, 2006 FIFA World Cup and see if things have improved.

Out now, it's 344MB. As is tradition, you get to play one half of one game between anyone out of England, Germany, USA and Mexico.

With the actual tournament happening in June, 2006 FIFA World Cup will be out later this month on April 28th, and will be available on every single format you can think of. Even mobile phones. Even GameCube!

We'll let you know what we think of it nearer release.

    I hope this is half way decent - i'd love a good football game for the 360.

    You need to add something (cant remember off the top of my head) to the shortcut to get it to run at a higher resolution than 640x480 and to be perfectly honest, it looks UTTER gash. No better than FIFA 2003.

    Is this a different game to the Road To The World Cup game I just downloaded the demo for from Xbox Live Market Place ?

    Yes. Its the actual world cup game. with the option of playing the qualifiers as well. It's almost like 2 games in one ;)

    Graphically it sucks even when you fiddle to get it running at max resolution, but I assume that's because they've used low-detail textures to keep the demo size down. Cut-scenes and the whole World Cup 'fanfare' are very well done.

    The gameplay is still shite though, there is absolutely no skill involved in the major elements of the game like crossing and shooting, it's so pre-determined and on rails and results in some deeply unsatisfying gameplay.

    If you buy this you need your head looked at.

    Might pick it up once it hits the bargain bin/really cheap used/classics re-release. As I have all official European Championship/World Cup releases since World Cup 94, there's really no reason to stop now, as the demo runs and looks decent enough* and plays reasonably well, except for the somewhat fast pace (which is probably a few notches up than the regular to make up for the short time). From the demo, looks a 7/10, with one point more or less depending of the World Cup feelies.

    * considering my 'puter is a PIII800 with a GF4Mx.

    Why are the graphics so rubbish?
    I mean the Pro Evolution 5 demo was about the same size and its graphics were great.
    Is Pro Evo gunna have a World Cup game aswell?

    Konami has already hinted that their 360 game will be out in the usual late Autumn period.
