Relic working on Warhammer 40,000 strategy title

Make a note in your diary: Christmas 2004 is the Dawn of War.

Renowned PC developer Relic Entertainment (Impossible Creatures, Homeworld 2, etc) has signed on the dotted line with THQ to develop a real-time strategy game based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is due out at the end of 2004, and by the sound of it we can expect more Relic-developed RTS games to appear under the THQ banner in the future.

Although we don't know all that much about Dawn of War at this point, Relic CEO Alex Garden is confident they can wield the tricky licence creatively and successfully, and aims to "bring the epic moments of the tabletop gaming experience to life with genre-defining front-line combat scenarios."

The dark, gothic science fantasy of Games Workshop's tabletop strategy game Warhammer 40,000 has been the subject of plenty of videogames in the past of course, but few if any have truly hit the mark. THQ's own Fire Warrior, developed by Kuju in the UK, met with a mixed reception earlier this year.
