King Kong demo

Be a man! Or be a giant ape.

In slightly better news than the thing about Ghost Recon 3 being delayed (although they seemed bizarrely chuffed about that anyway), Ubisoft's released a PC demo of Peter Jackson's King Kong, aka Michel Ancel's Peter Jackson's King Kong.

We've got it on Eurofiles, so go download it if you haven't already. The demo features one level from Jack Driscoll's perspective and another from Kong's. Or, as someone funnier than me put it on the demo page, one that lets you jump inside Kong himself.

As you know, we're loudly confident about King Kong being one of the best film tie-ins since Chronicles of Riddick on Xbox. Our experience with it so far has been that it's incredibly atmospheric, built on a bedrock of interesting and sensible design decisions and also quite attractive.

The full thing's out mid-November on PS2, Xbox, Cube, PC, Xbox 360 and all the handhelds, although we've no idea what those versions are like. And, obviously, the Xbox 360 one is most probably out on December 2nd when the console launches - that's what Ubi told us when we went to their trade and press day recently anyway.

This is damn good. Will purchase. I haven't been chased by a trex like this since tomb raider. (Although king kong beat 'em up is a bit dodgy)

good : Its got monkeys in it !

bad: the fighting mechanics, crash detection during melee, textures look crap, annoying motion blur every time you pull off a special move....pacing

I think bringing back Kong was a great idea from Jackson but this game is looking more like Rayman 3 standard than BG&E for the frenchy

The only downsides to this demo is that its soooo short, and piss easy to complete.

You didnt expect them to give away too much for free did ya? ;-)

It would of been nice had the demo lasted longer than the time it took to download it.

    The demo uses Starforce, FYI.

I screamed like a little girl when I first saw the T-rex in TR1. Hopefully I won't do the same thing this time, especially as I'm at work...

Edit: God, what a shit game.

    "The demo uses Starforce, FYI."

That'll please the pirates then.. Cue all the pirates moaning on all the message boards that it uses starforce - boo hoo.. As they're not going to be able to crack it easily (while making up some crap about them not wanting it to fiddle with their pc).

Ridiculous Starforce protection. Stupid start menu entries. Dumb unskippable adverts. Then it jerks all over the place on a recently built A64 3800+ with a 9800XT, regardless of detail or DirectX version used.

    Joy.

then i'd suggest you didnt build your pc very well.. runs fine on my pc, and it's not even half that spec.

after playing this demo i think that i will still go see the movie and avoid the game

    awful
  • Stuz359 #16 6 years ago

Fantastic Demo. Feels more like a cinematic experience than a game though, not sure how that will translate to a full lengh game.
  • Hunam85 #17 6 years ago

you think a 9800XT is actully good? oh dear
  • Talha #18 6 years ago

Very unconventional demo. The textures look OK but the overall atmosphere is fantastic, though I hope they improve the human character models. The T-Rex - Kong fight was ace.

@BRichna: I have P4 3.0 GHz with 1 GB RAM and a 6800 GT, and the demo ran silky smooth at 1024x768. I can't see why it wouldn't run on a 9800XT - must be some driver problem with your system buddy. And YES, 9800XT is quite good even now. I was running Far Cry with Very High detail at 1024x768 on my 9600XT, so the 9800XT must be way better. Don't let them depress you mate! ;-)
