360 game box design revealed

With Amped 3 cover.

2K Sports has released the packshot design for Amped 3 - showing us what the basic design for Xbox 360 game boxes will look like.

As you can see from the pic below, box covers will feature a silver strip at the top along with the Xbox 360 logo and, even more shockingly, the words Xbox 360. Plus an Xbox Live logo, in most cases.

Amped 3, the latest instalment in the popular snowboarding series, is due out in December. You can read more about the game here.

This game has actually yanked my chain as a serious skier

Apparently there are real life locations with free-ski options

If its got a fully functioning Val D'Isere with Le Face im getting it : p

Wasn't Xbox Live mandatory for all games? I seem to remember something like that way back from the E3 presentation. In which case, they wouldn't need to print it on the boxes at all. :-) Still, might be a good idea to remind people the option's there.

    I'm not an M$ lower.

I think thats pretty sweet for a snowboarding cover.

Interesting that they've built the live logo into the front properly. Don't think they did that before? Guess it shows their belief in that feature of the machine.
  • Tonka #5 7 years ago

I'm just glad that they didn't call it 'Amp3d'
  • Carpathian #6 7 years ago

So, somewhere between a graphic novel cover and Viewtiful Joe then ?

    Meh.
  • Talha #7 7 years ago

LeDilettante : The design is crap !!! ;-)
    /screams his head off

Seriously though, I think the silver will look good in the flesh and will make more sense of the particular shade of green chosen for the logo.

That said, I don't think the Amped cover goes with the spirit of the game; seems to be more suitable for a title like SSX. But that's just me.

"/waits for hordes of MS haters to scream their heads off that the design is crap"

Er... how would hating the design be hating Microsoft? It's exactly the same box design that's used on current console games, just with the 360 logo at the top, and it's a bit late for them to bitch about that.

It's a box shot, it can't be used to judge anything.

Zackly what I was going to say. Makes things a bit easier than arsing around on the back cover looking to see if I'll be able to play screaming Yanks or not.

    Great design...

    If your snow is green.
  • zErOb_cOOl #11 7 years ago

    Errr

I saw this ages ago too....I think.

Maybe Play has only just updated the box though.
  • prettyboytim #12 7 years ago

I like it. It reminds me of the old Activisioni boxes from the 2600 era.

This is news? I mean, seriously?
  • tengu #14 7 years ago

"it's just that it is trendy on these shores to bash anything Xbox related, that's all ;-)"

No, it's bashing new consoles that's trendy.
  • OnlyMe #15 7 years ago

It IS quite ugly. But I bet it'll give a whole new impression when I hold the box in my hands.
  • geepersd #16 7 years ago

looks a bit like the current platinum/budget range I think, but once it's the standard it'll be fine.

nice artwork for amped anyway though

  • bivith #18 7 years ago

Preferable to stupid cardboard boxes that get crushed.
  • Blerk #21 7 years ago

Looks alright. But they're not still using the snot green DVD boxes are they?
  • Talha #22 7 years ago

I like DVD boxes - they are big with a proper 16:9 aspect ratio. Pity we don't get horizontal covers - now that would look great
  • Fatfish #23 7 years ago

Talha - lay the box on it's back. Voila, horizontal cover!! ;)
  • Blerk #24 7 years ago

Hey Blerk! Were have you been?

We've known what the boxes will look like for ages, you just have to look at any online store to see them... GAME and play.com have had them up for months...
  • TwistidChimp #28 7 years ago

Yeah, The Elder Scrolls Site had a huge image of the pc and 360 boxes a while ago... seems to have been taken off the official website.. here's an alternative..

These style packshots have been around for a couple of weeks now...

There are UK ones available for Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, Project Gotham Racing 3, Dead or Alive 4 and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion at least.

  • asha #31 7 years ago

This is so old they showed the first cover images way back before E3...
  • pantherboy #32 7 years ago

They should have called it Amped 360
  • Xerx3s #33 7 years ago

Err, these designs have been around for ages on almost every online shop that ive seen.

"Wasn't Xbox Live mandatory for all games? I seem to remember something like that way back from the E3 presentation. In which case, they wouldn't need to print it on the boxes at all. :-) Still, might be a good idea to remind people the option's there." - No, XBL is intergrated into the hardware. That means that it is online whenever the console is online (even with films ie). That doesnt mean that games support it.

"Interesting that they've built the live logo into the front properly. Don't think they did that before? Guess it shows their belief in that feature of the machine." - Errr, the xbl logo has always been on the front. Its very easy to see what games have it.
  • Yossarian #34 7 years ago

could not be older, this news, and Blerk, I believe the cases themselves are white/grey
  • speedstars13 #35 7 years ago

Green snows....never a good sign. Thank you Mr. Global Warmer.
  • TheDifficult3rdAlbum #36 7 years ago

    > "Wasn't Xbox Live mandatory for all games?"

The souless word-trickery marketing gumpf phrase you're looking for is "All XBox360 games are XBox Live aware"

Which means nothing if you think about it - All games online multiplayer? No, just that you can download a patch if you need to. w00t.
  • kangarootoo #37 7 years ago

Devs are required to build in support for the friends list and all that business too. In fact that is the key thing, no multiplyer and no patches is OK but you have to be able to sign in to the XB Live network.

All part of the masterplan, which is why the XB exists of course.
  • Yossarian #38 7 years ago

TheDifficult3rdAlbum, actually being Live Aware is more about having your friends know what you are playing at any time, knowing what they are playing at any time, and being able to communicate with them at any time in game, so you are 'always connected', which is the real "marketing gumpf phrase" you should be attacking
