Super Smash Bros. coming to Wii

Brawl to feature Wario, Kid Icarus, Solid Snake.

Speaking at a special event after the first day of the E3 show in Los Angeles, Nintendo's creative boss Shigeru Miyamoto has announced another title for the Wii - namely Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Despite now being at an independent studio, series director Masahiro Sakurai is back on board for this instalment, which unlike its predecessor Super Smash Bros. Melee, won't be a launch title. Instead, it's due to appear in 2007.

Sakurai was on hand to take the stage with Miyamoto and introduce the new characters who will appear in Brawl - with Wario, Pit from Kid Icarus and Zero Suit Samus set to appear alongside the already substantial cast of characters in the series.

Metal Gear Solid star Solid Snake is also due to be a playable character, with the Konami character apparently appearing with the blessing of his creator, Hideo Kojima.

Sakurai also spoke a bit about the controls of the new Wii iteration of the game - stating that it will offer players the option of controlling the game entirely using the GameCube control pad, since the developers don't wish to alienate fans of the series' traditional gameplay.

We'll have more details on Super Smash Bros. Brawl shortly, since Tom is currently winging his way back from the event with a taped Q&A clutched in his sweaty paw.

brawl sounds like a better title than melee.

What I'd absolutely love to see is some Sega classic characters included. The very concept of beating up on Mario with Sonic is incredibly attractive.

Yes Nintendo, we know you're going to release new versions of every one of your last generation games again for the Wii, just like you did from N64 to Gamecube.

    New IP please!

So, uhhh, Red Steel, Necro-Nesia, Project Hammer, the Wii Sports range, Trauma Center and that disaster based game not enough for you?

I was absolutely positive that they were joking when I heard it mentioned on a message board about Snake being in it.

Man, that's just unreal. And awesome. :D

    *sigh*

Yeah nintendo, why dont you take a leaf out of the other twos book, with the likes of GT4, halo3, mgs4, etc etc?

Besides this is a 3rd party game.

(and what ddevil has already said)

Am I the only one who thinks it seems wrong to pit a highly trained killing machine like Solid Snake against a cute little labrador puppy?
  • smelly #12 6 years ago

hahaha.. but cute puppies DESERVE to die a horrid death.
  • Lost_in_Darkness #13 6 years ago

The puppy is an attack. It is thought that during online play, you can unleash an attack with the puppy completely obscuring your opponants views for severeal seconds while you're able to do your severe damage on them.

BTW, to that person telling nintendo to get new IP. 1st of all Smash Bros is the biggest seller on GC so it is a must for any Nintendo owner, secondly it's online.....so even if your a friendless nerd like yourself, you are able to play anainst anyone online.
And thirdly and finally, Ridge Racer 7, Tekken 6, VF5, GT5, Resident Evil 5, Tony Hawks 8, Fifa 9000 and the uncountable amounts of reused ip tell you that you're being nothing but a hypocrite if you're saying this of Nintendo and not other companies.

And anyway, Nintendo had FAR MORE new IP shown and left to be shown than the other 2 companies as well, so you really don't know what you're talking about.

The list of Wii games that I need is steadily increasing. Super Smash Bros Melee is still one of my favourite Cube games, and perhaps this is the cue to have another bash. Looking forward to having Snake in the frey. And yes, a few Sega characters would be a nice addition; I've been meaning to slap that stupid fox silly for some time.

    A touch over-sensitive, no?

I don't see why The Other Two need to be brought in to a thread on a Nintendo IP. Leave that to articles on the respective company's titles. Sure, Nintendo are not the only company that re-hashes old IP, but they still do it, which some people may be justly aggrieved about.

For the record, I thought there was a surprising amount of new IP all around.

    Only Sonic is missing...

Especially considering Sega had already done a brawler with Sonic & Co.

That trailer is fantastic. I've never played Smash Bros. before but I'm well tempted to get this.
  • jimmyboo #19 6 years ago

Hahaha, this looks great. 'especially Snake in a box. Can't wait.
  • ProfessorLesser #20 6 years ago

    Fook, great news.

    Zero Suit Samus, though? Wassat?

Surely not... Samus minus power suit?! Fooking great!

    Fook!

    Can't.....wait....much longer.... need... to buy

Who can be negative about a game that has a trailer like that? I.E. Link sealing Mario in the Triforce, and Kirby cooking him in a pot! Mario's expression there is absolutely legendary!

Looks like it's gonna be a good game in all.
Ooh, and about Snake being mostly on the PS:
He was NES material first. And don't yew forget it!

He wasn't you know, but it doesn't really matter :)
  • Jez_the_Pie #26 6 years ago

    Really?
I was under the distinct impression that the first Metal Gear game was on the NES?
  • Bates #27 6 years ago

Nah, it was on the MSX mate.
  • Squall7 #28 6 years ago

Interesting link about Metal Gear - http://en .wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_... Hehe, my favourite character has always been Link, but I do like to use random characters too. I wonder who else would go well into Smash Bros. Anybody who does would probably increase their own game sales too!
