Vice City Stories for PSP

It's out here in October.

Rockstar has announced Vice City Stories, a new instalment in the Grand Theft Auto series exclusive to the PSP, which will be available in the UK on October 20th.

The new game is set in the familiar locale of Vice City, but it won't be a rehash of any previous games in the series - nope, Rockstar is promising "an entirely new game with a new storyline, new missions and gameplay."

It's being developed by the same team that created Liberty City Stories, and is set to feature professional voice talent, a "diverse" soundtrack and all the hallmarks of the GTA franchise we've come to expect. According to Rockstar, this one's going to "thrill long-time fans and excite new PSP system gamers like never before."

Sadly, that's all the information there is to be had at the moment. Still, it's good news all the same and, of course, we'll bring you more on this one as soon as we can.

"exclusive" to PSP. Until they port it to PS2.
  • Flying_Pig #2 6 years ago

Still V cool though. I hope it's still in the 80's.
  • Hench #3 6 years ago

Wow, they just keep on coming.

What's the next installment? San Andreas Stories?

I would like to see them fit san andreas onto PSP lol
  • Kon #4 6 years ago

    A STORIES TITLE AGAIN!?!?!! SKREW U R*!!!

This is starting to get to me. The DS gets great games after great games, so much so that i will probably have to stop buying games for any other system soon. The PSP just gets crap and PS2 shovelware. Even the long awaited Daxter turned out to be much, much overrated.

AND NOW these guys come out and say that the before mentioned "all-new" GTA is going to be in a city i already know back-to-back?

The only thing keeping me from selling the damn thing at this point is Loco Roco and the hope that Capcom announces Megaman PU 2 at E3.

And not to forget that after the press conference Sony put last monday, the X360 is starting to look mighty appealing too... Is the end of Sony's reign in sight??

    /frustrated rant

    Ummm.

I was with you until you dissed Daxter.
  • Kay #6 6 years ago

If you don't like the PSP, sell it. I for one thought Daxter was great (finished it a couple of days ago).

Anyway - hopefully there will be some improvements over LCS. The frame-rate, for example, needs working on, and the control system also needs a bit of tuning up. Maybe some better missions, too. But apart from that, I enjoyed LCS so I'm happy about this. Plus there's the inevitable 80's soundtrack to look forward too...

I do like the machine. It would be long gone otherwise.

It's the fact that most of the software it has varies from average to crap 9 out of 10 times that has me bothered. That Lumines is the game i most play after more than a year is very telling.

Daxter is a technically great game, with good production values and vanilla gameplay. period.

I don't get why people hate on announcements like this. Take Two want to make money, GTA sells bucketloads, so it's only natural they'll make more [games]. If this was the 5th or 6th retread of old ground, perhaps there'd be cause for concern, but it isn't. If you don't like the ethos behind it, don't play the games.

Usual tall poppy syndrome that is becoming all to familiar on these boards.

If you didn't like Vice City on PS2, then you really do need a bullet from Tony in your head.

Vice City stories on the PSP is going to be amazing. Vice City is my all time favourite game, and one that made me buy the PS2. Best sound track ever, IMHO. Absolutely ground breaking game, it was.

Personally, i'm not hating on anything, i'm voicing my discontent (in much the same way a pot-junkie would if he found he just purchased a bag of ground garden-grass, but still...).

It was obvious a new GTA would be coming out for the PSP. LCS was far too sucessfull for it not to. Now, can anyone tell me that they are happy that its a retread of old grounds rather than an all new game? I for one surely am not.

Are you for real? Did you even read past the first line one my first post? Where in hell did i say i didn't like original Vice City? Did i even say this game will be crap?

Good god, this is becoming like Gamefaqs more and more each day....

    Glass Houses... Stones...
Im sure there is a connection.
  • Kon #17 6 years ago

    That so hams?

Maybe that Skrew R* bit was a little too much. Other than that..

Nice to see you taking an observer part in all this and still post the odd comment. Care to share your thoughts on the subject?

Im tempted to say that if you dont see this announcement for what it is, youre retarded......

I dont know how anyone could complain about an almost certainly brilliant 20+ game on the PSP.

I mean, shit, its not like the PSP is overrun with them.

Take the announcement in the context of the PSP abilities and software library.

A familiar city? ZOMG!!!!!! FUCK YOU R*!!!!!!

    Jesus............

Hey, I was just dying to use the phrase "Userous arse-hen"
From my lofty position, there is tardage to be found in both perry and your posts. Perry, for automatically assuming the game will be great, and you for your anger. (Plus the drug references to make yourself seem cool) (Also the use of the phrase "hating on", which just isnt cricket)
  • steoc4 #20 6 years ago

Spent many an hour enjoying LCS multiplayer so I'm looking forward to this, I'm sure they'll come up with some additions other than 'LCS in Vice City'

  • Kay #21 6 years ago

    @ Kon:

I do understand what you're saying about unimpressive PSP software, and I feel the same way. However, things have been changing recently. Both FMH and Daxter are great, and there's plenty more on the way - Syphon Filter, MGA2, Loco Rocoas well as a bunch of new stuff due out before Christmas.

As for GTA - you have to remember that there are quite a few people who haven't played GTA on the PS2, and then there are people who would just prefer to play it on a handheld. You don't have to buy it if you don't like it - there's plenty of good software on its way.

It's probably not technically possible, but I do hope that R* manage to fit the old soundtrack on it. 'Twas brill.
  • ecureuil #23 6 years ago

    Completely expected.

Does anyone else remember when E3 was full of surprises?
  • Kon #24 6 years ago

    @nick

and i will say that if you don't see that i understand very well what this announcement is and that i'm much dissapointed since i actually had hopes that R* would treat PSP owners to a full new GTA title rather than just throw some old bone (that most will still happily play with if VCS was anything to go by), than you certainly are very humbly endowed in grey matter.

At this point i'm going to stop bothering. Its obvious that Nintendo's fanboys have some rivals to contend with again.

Drug references make me look cool? I'm not an american kid thanks very much. I just didn't imagine anything better at that moment. As for some other missused/mal-placed words, my native tongue is portuguese so i would expect my use of the english language would be less than impecable.
  • smoison #26 6 years ago

    This could be pretty cool.

They had better work there ass off to get the Helicopters in there, no more we need more power excuses!

This could be awesome, but if they don't improve on LCS, it will suck.
  • the creeper #27 6 years ago

I don't think they've said when the game will be set have they? Its entirely possible that it won't be set in the 80s again.

TBH I'm a little disappointed by this announcement. When LCS came out Rockstar announced that they were working on a new GTA game for PSP, and to me it felt like they were inferring it would be a new map (which would be awesome). Instead it's Vice City, which has been my least favourite of the maps so far. It's smaller and less varied than Liberty City (two very narrow islands, one of which is half beach), the price I guess we paid for it's relatively short development time.

Hench - it's be nothing short of a miracle if they managed to fit San Andreas on a UMD! But perhaps they could use the Los Santos map and a bit of the surrounding countryside. LS was pretty big city map with lots of variety. Wouldn't be surprised if next year we see Los Santos Stories...
  • the creeper #28 6 years ago

Disc - Infrastructure multiplayer is a must. As is making the MP game a little less laggy than LCS. If it's limited to 6 players again, I'd like to see smaller areas of the map being used (except in the racing modes obviously). In LCS, I always felt like I was spending half of my time trying to get to the same place as my opponents.
  • Hughes. #29 6 years ago

I enjoyed LCS, but the constant streaming didn't half hammer the battery. One of the few games that justifies the mainly bullshit claims the PSP battery life is too short (I had a Game Gear, so I can tell you a thing or two about handhelds that eat batteries, less than two hours out of six AA's, now THAT's a short battery life!)

When I can get 5 days hard play out of Everybody's Golf without a recharge, GTA's charge munching is a bit disappointing, and the way the games work I don't see how they can get around it.
