Battlefield 2 expansion out soon

Plus: new patches released.

After countless delays due to patch issues, Electronic Arts has announced that new expansion pack Battlefield 2: Euro Forces will be released on March 15th via the EA downloader.

Euro Forces will see you battling against the MEC and Chinese armies as you attempt to take control of all-new locations across Asia. Expect lots of new weapons and vehicles including attack helicopters, battle tanks and assault rifles.

EA has also released two new patches for the original Battlefield 2. The first is only 14MB and updates version 1.2 to version 1.21, fixing various bugs. The second 351MB patch updates a fresh install of the game. Both patches are available on Eurofiles, and you can find full details of what they do over on EA's FTP site.

Hence your addition to my ignore list.

Would like to see more of the pacific maps from BF1942 at some point.

I'd like to see the next proper patch come along and put right the utter mess they made of the PKM in 1.2, really.
  • Darkedge #4 6 years ago

another first posted hits the list...

and finally EA gets it's rippoff addon nearly released!
  • Artemus #5 6 years ago

I haven't played BF2 for months. Not sure what patch I'm even meant to be downloading now.

Surely that must be MECH forces...
  • Tiger_Walts #7 6 years ago

I'd say SF was a rip-off, Euro Forces is priced perfectly.

Added content I'm all for...content that was deliberately removed from the original code to be purchased at a later date I'm not so keen on.

I just have horrible images in my head of an Alpha build BF2 that featured most of the extra content in SF and coming in EF with an EA exec sat with it saying "ohhh that bit's good - cut that out, save it for the exapansion(s)"

Personally I'd rather see some other game modes than just having some new vehicles, armies, maps. Cant help but smile when Im on the server browser and notice there is still the (pointless) pull-down box for game modes.
  • Furbs #9 6 years ago

I cant see that it was deliberatly left out. The SF armies in no way fit in with the storyline in BF2 itself.
  • richardiox #10 6 years ago

    There's a storyline?!

edit - or do you mean the little descriptive paragraph that precedes each map that probably took half an hour to write them all!

Wasn't the GRAW review sposed to be today :(.
  • Errol #13 6 years ago

I would like to see a BF2 version of 'El Alamein' and perhaps a few of the other original BF1942 maps.

Quote from Artemus... "Not sure what patch I'm even meant to be downloading now."
Hmmm, let me take a wild stab in the dark, the LATEST!?

Quote from Tonka... "Surely that must be MECH forces"
No, MEC stands for 'Middle Eastern Coalition' actually.

Can't get enough of this game, one of my all time faves.

Thanks Einstein. Yes, you might think that. Except I went to install what was the latest and it said I couldn't because I didn't have the right version.
  • Derblington #16 6 years ago

Artemus - there're 2 versions of patches: a full patch and an incremental patch. The incrementals obviously only patch from one version to the next, so if you're trying that one without the one before it you're screwed. Find the full patch and you'll have no problems.

    "NEW FEATURE: VISIBLE UAV
The UAV that is placed by Commanders will now include a visual element. An actual UAV will appear within the UAV detection radius and circle the area. Players will be able to shoot it down, bringing the UAV detection to a premature end. The Commander will be able to continue placing UAVs once the timer resets, as per current design."

    Sounds interesting!!!

Do you guys still play on Thursdays? Sorry I've been so busy :(

There are still bugs in this, i get repeated looping sounds of machine gun fire and medikits.
Surely they could do something about the godawful loading times as well.

Someone hacked the code and found a mention of 128-player maps. It's a shame they never kept that option in there. Joint Ops has 128 players and it can be mental when a server is full.

"Hence your addition to my ignore list"

LOL, that is awsome. I don't think I have ever been ignored for such a light hearted crime. I wonder if that was because of my post, or simply because I don't play BF2. Hey, it isn't because you wanted to post first instead is it?

Thanks Jonsend, you've made me chuckle :)

    @Darkedge

And you too. Hehe, I'm must do this more often.
  • Stickman #22 6 years ago

If you're going to ignore kanga for his post, I think it may be best if you shy away from the forums for the time being!
  • TurdBreaker #23 6 years ago

Hmm - dunno what the whiners are complaining about. No one's forcing you to buy the add-on. And you can simply wait till you read the reviews and if it's not up to you expectations, don't buy it. If you can't "afford it" well tuff shit - can't blame EA cos you're cheap.

Me, I'll buy it simply cos I find BF2 incredibly fun. Besides, how much is it? £19 quid? Pfft - no biggie. Wasted much more money on much more worthless items in my time. Hmm ex gf certainly was ;)
  • dsmx #24 6 years ago

It's pretty obvious that they intended there to be bigger maps when yo see how much of all the maps have that red dashed area over them, but bf2 requires 1 gig of ram to run smoothly anyway can you'd probably need 2 gig to get those 128 player maps. Also this booster pack would be a worthwhile purchase if it wasn't for the POE2 mod that is due out soon that has better content for free.
