Ubisoft plans King Kong, Splinter Cell for Nintendo DS
Joining a DS line-up that consists of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Bomberman DS, Rayman DS, Sprung and Asphalt Urban GT, with more titles based on internal franchises set to follow.
Ubisoft has revealed that it plans to release Nintendo DS versions of its forthcoming King Kong and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory titles this year - in addition to previously announced DS titles Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Bomberman DS, Rayman DS, Sprung and Asphalt Urban GT.
The French publisher, which has been one of the most avid supporters of the new Nintendo system, also revealed that other DS games based on existing internal franchises are set to follow.
The DS version of King Kong will be released this Christmas to coincide with the cinematic release of Peter Jackson's film project of the same name on 14th December. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory will also appear later this year.
Fans won't have to wait that long for its DS take on Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, however, which is due this spring. Bomberman DS, recently signed from Japanese developer Hudson Soft in a deal that also included PS2 title Bomberman Hardball, will appear this summer.
Although Ubisoft's early DS titles Sprung and Asphalt Urban GT have met with poor reviews in the USA, Ubi's interest in the DS is sure to have been buoyed by more than 180,000 sales of the latter, and it has already announced plans to release Sprung, Asphalt and Rayman DS alongside the Nintendo hardware on 11th March.
