Tony Hawk Xbox 360 demo soon

Project 8 coming to Marketplace.

Activision has confirmed that a Tony Hawk's Project 8 demo will be appearing on Xbox Live Marketplace "soon" - although there's no word on exact details for now.

The news comes after an update to the game's official website added a line of text that read, "Check out the playable demo on Xbox Live Marketplace".

Project 8 is in development for multiple current- and next-gen platforms including PlayStation 3, although developer Neversoft recently confirmed that the PS3 version would omit online play.

New mission types include Filmer and Photo goals, where the idea is to perform tricks for a photo shoot or follow cameraman instructions, while customisation options will allow you to change the surrounding area to fit your skating needs.

THUG 1 was probably the best new Tony Hawk since the first one. Hopefully the new episode is as good.

there is no online for the PS3 ? I am not reading this right am i ? will this be a trend ?
• Aretak #6 5 years ago

THS2 on the Dreamcast remains the definitive TH game.

@effinwooly

im sure PS3 owners dont mind a lack of online play. in fact if the ps3 version sells more than the 360 that means that people prefer no online play at all, as we all know sales = customer satisfaction

THPS3 is easily the best of the series.

I think that comment was a dig at Sony's comment that "European gamers still buy consoles even though they are delayed by a year, so they obviously don't mind"

THUG 1 was probably the best new Tony Hawk since the first one. Hopefully the new episode is as good.

I think that opinion needs a bit explaining. To me THUG1 was a huge downer, mainly due to more lackluster bits (platforming anyone) and worse level design. The best bits of TH has always been the arcade core, and dragging this through an awful story mode was not, and is not, the right way to go.

I quite like both THUG2 and THAW, but Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 is still more focused than all of the later entries.

Hopes for Project 8: Well, it seems like they're trying to make the game more realistic, which may turn out to be more interesting. However, it's maybe more probable it will only be more dull.

I haven't played any of the TH games in the past, but now that Amped has gone in a direction I'm not keen on (game mechanics rather than style I mean, the style I could live with) I need something to fill the board riding game void.

Hurray for demos. No blind purchasing for me.

THPS is the game that got me back into videogaming. It will always have a special place in my heart. I lost interest in it after the 2nd one though. Figure this demo will satisfy my TH needs.

@Aretak

Did you try THS2x on xbox? only looked a lil better but was my favourite from all the series. With PS2 joypad adapter

• OnlyMe #17 5 years ago

Wasn't it 3X, not 2?

I bought Tony Hawk 3 on the day of release, and Tony Hawk 4 around the time of release. Loved them both, 3 more than 4 as it was more of the same. 1-4 remains the best era. I've the chance to pick up Tony Hawk's American Wastelands very cheap, is it good? Haven't played the series since the devestating dissappointment that is THUG1.

2x was a US release to tie them over until 3 came out, never avaible in the uk to buy

THPS2x is the superior to both THPS2 and THPS1, but I agree THPS3 is the best one, especially for online play. I find each game has its merits (probably because I'm a big fan from day one, and I love skateboarding) so none of them have really disappointed me that much. Project 8 looks pretty cool to me, so I'll definitely be trying this demo.

How much do the demos usually cost? I've never used XBLM before...which I'm kinda ashamed of, but oh well.
• jonsaan #20 5 years ago

The first one was amzing as it was truly something different. Subsequent releases may have polished the formula but nothing beats the first one for it's sheer freshness. If you were new to the series I am sure that 2 or 3 or 300 may be better but frankly I had had enough after finishing the first one.
• oerhoert #21 5 years ago

Demos are free. Which they should be -- after all, they're often excellent PR for the game. Everyone wins.

It's clear that the first game in a franchise will almost always be the freshest, but the interesting thing, for me, is how the whole concept was revolutionized with the new features in game number three, allowing the whole thing to transcend into a pure, well-designed and delightfully skill-based combo fest.
• thehat #22 5 years ago

So how do these new mission types differ from the old mission types where you performed for the camera?
• in5ane #23 5 years ago

Quit yer whining, there's always the classic mode to supplement the story modes :)

I'm really looking forward to this demo, simply because it's new Tony Hawkery! Sure, the series has changed (and some people don't like all the changes), but at least they have tried to differentiate their sequels over the last eight years.

I couldn't pick a favourite between THPS3 or 4 tbh. I have THPS2x, but it runs a little ropey due to being a very early Xbox game. And once you go THPS3, it's very hard to go back.
• effinwooly #24 5 years ago

isnt no one else bothered that isn't online for the PS3? maybe not........
• Baz_Dude #25 5 years ago

Sony fanboys arent bother because PS2 online was a complete crock of shit and a failure
• Tonka #26 5 years ago

I had a look at this demo of the new freestyle trick system and it looks like a lot of fun. That one more trick to my chain feeling.

Bliss

Really looking forward to the demo now.

If only they'd bring back Jet Set Radio:(
• style #28 5 years ago

For me, THPS4 was the best in the series. Without a shadow of a doubt. The introduction of freeform skating outside of time limits was a Godsend, and really allowed one to immerse themselves in the game, pulling off moves and just basically chilling out.

Looking forward to Project 8. They're going more simmy with it, aren't they? Good move!

:-)
• yaroze #29 5 years ago

The THPS series has made me less and less interested since the fourth iteration, but Project 8 interests me because it's like they've finally realised that it's time to rethink, rebrand, and change the game for the better. Hopefully the demo won't completely destroy my illusion of this... I've come to expect the worst since THUG2!

I'll be happy again when they get a proper simulation skateboarding game, grinding more than 10ft is just god damn silly, nevermind the million+ point combo's. I realise people like it like this but what about the skaters who play games?
• asphaltcowboy #31 5 years ago

Thanks for that link Tonka! That looks awesome! Not been that interested in TH games (other than TH4 on GBA), but this does seem like it's shaping up pretty nicely!
