Warcraft movie on the way

Hit MMO heads to the big screen.

Yes, yet another videogame is getting turned into a movie - and this time it's the turn of hit PC MMO World of Warcraft.

That's according to the New York Times, which reckons Blizzard will officially announce the project later today. There's no word on who will direct or star, but we do know it's being produced by Legendary Entertainment, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Legendary is also the production company behind the excellent Batman Begins and forthcoming blockbuster Superman Returns.

"We try to make big, epic, immersive games at Blizzard, and we have a track record of making some of the best games in the world," Blizzard bigwig Paul Sams told the Times.

"Similarly, our goal is to make one of the best films in the world. With Legendary, they have a creative and management team that is so attuned with us it was like we were separated at birth.

"We want to make a movie that will not only appeal to our existing fans, but will also bring in people that have never heard of Warcraft before."

More details soon...

If it's anything like their Diablo, Starcraft and Warcraft CGI movies then I'm all excited :)

As long as they keep Jason Hayes doing the soundtrack then I should be happy :)

I'm assuming they are going more for an adaptation of the CG intro movie than an adaptation of a whole load of tards spamming 'LFG' all the time.

Hope this is CG rather than live action

They have excellent CG, it's just a shame that every element of the Warcraft universe is stolen :) Oh well, standing on the shoulders of giants is OK.

It's the epic tale of an orc who spends 40 hours killing pigs and insects and selling the skins to buy himself a pair of shoes.

    I can't wait.

Yeah heh... I suppose the success of this depends on how sick of overblown fantasy everyone managed to get following the Rings trilogy.

I can think of licenses of this type i'd rather see made into movies... Warhammer and Black Isles various outputs being the two that immediately spring to mind.

    lol Aardvark

I can't wait for the big battle scene in the film, crowds of people spamming LVL60 Rouge LFG!!

please please please don't let this be live action...... th eonly reaons people have ever wanted a movie by Blizzard was because their CG work is soo good :(

Oh dear. If Sony, Blizzard and the rest keep this up I'm going to be physically sick before E3 is over.

Attention companies: slap your PR and marketing people. Please. Won't somebody think of the children?

I do really like the Warcraft storyline in respect of Thrall, nice to see a bit of convention turned on it's head with orcs as heroic and noble creatures, rather than just evil drooling beasts all the time.

Well who wouldn't find two hours of live action, japanese girls dressed as night elves cosplay, appealing?
