Twilight Princess still on Cube

Nintendo denies Revolution shift.

Nintendo says that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is still due out on GameCube despite rumours to the contrary.

Speaking to Eurogamer this week, Nintendo UK's PR Manager said: "Nintendo has always said that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will appear on Nintendo GameCube and this is still very much the case."

When Nintendo issued a statement in August announcing that Twilight Princess had slipped to 2006, many anticipated a first-quarter release. When the game didn't appear on Nintendo's Q1 release list announced late last week, tongues began to wag (or rather fingers began to patter) and suddenly there was talk of it appearing alongside Revolution instead.

Puzzled by this, one hack took it upon himself to ask Nintendo's quote-o-genic mouthpiece Reggie Fils-Aime about it during last week's Gamers Summit. Fils-Aime reportedly said that he spoke on behalf of both Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and designer Shigeru Miyamoto and that both of them had said they wanted it on GameCube.

So cheer up, GameCube owners. It may not be a Christmas 2005 release, but Nintendo hasn't abandoned you completely.

I don't like gaming in the summer

Here's a thought. Maybe it is still a GC title, but they're adding hooks and tweaks for the Rev to take advantage of. Something of a bonus for early Rev adopters.

I agree with Tonka - if it is released from June to August, then it is worthless.

Just release it on the Cube, whenever. Can't wait for this*. I'd even buy a bundle pack of this and a Cube for 90£, aren't I generous!!!

    * well obviously I 'can' but you get my drift :p

    Floppy has a point.
If this Zelda comes out for Gamecube, how long will it take to develop the next one for Revolution? Nintendo can't afford to wait so long, leaving their new console without one of the big names in gaming.

Yes but would you rather Link's first Revolution outing is one especially designed to take advantage of the workings of that console or simply one that didn't quite make the Game Cube. Personally I'm quite happy with the idea of Twilght Princess being the Cube's swansong - if it does miss the Revolution launch then that might be a blessing in disguise as, ignoring Nintendo's penchant for bad marketing, it should mean a much larger installed base capable of playing the title than Nintendo have right now. Hopefully a propper Revolution Zelda is already in the works, one designed with the system's rather unique controls in mind from the outset.

Two Zeldas would be the best solution, of course (also, given the backwards compatibility of the Revolution, a late arrival of Twilight Princess wouldn't be such a tragedy).
But do you believe Nintendo will have a Zelda "Wand Waker" for Revolution out in time?

Probably one of those games I'm eagerly waiting for. Zelda... the mere word alone turns my knees to jelly and makes me feel dizzy... love it.

It's pretty obvious now that Nintendo is treating LoZ:TP as the Revolution's Zelda franchise launch title, even though it's a Gamecube game. They'll have Revolution-exclusive Mario, Metroid and SSB titles, and TP to hold Zelda fans until the first Rev Zelda title is out (which is almost certainly at least a few years down the road).

Honestly, this is smart. They delayed TP to ensure that it would be as polished and epic as it needed to be to bridge the gap between GC and Rev. From the media they've released, the game looks almost as good as a lot of next-gen titles, and they're confident enough to position it as a system-seller for the Revolution. It's quite likely that there will be a Rev + TP bundle at some point.

Basically Nintendo is treating the shift to a new system as a gradual transition, rather than as a totally separate new era that eradicates everything before it. Other systems have backwards compatibility but the release schedules don't really acknowledge that... very few quality titles come out after a system's successor has come out, and the console is left to die. Nintendo's GC release schedule is thinner because they have low 3rd party developer support now, but TP is a large vote of confidence in the system.

It takes some maturity and foresight to do what N is doing, rather than scrapping good work just to do a technological upgrade... unlike certain developers one could name (not to imply that 3D Realms has done "good work" on DNF - who knows really? rumor has it that they're outsourcing all their content now.)

Never has it been said that Twilight Princess would be released Q1 2006. After the delay the release date was always AFTER the fiscal year 2005 ended, which means after 31st March 2006. So April 1st would have been the first day it could be released.

Zelda Revolution might already be under development, have you thought about that. You could get that impression, because Miyamoto and Eiji Aonuma said that it would be something totally different from the precent Zeldas, so they might even have some kind of a prototype at least to show how it's played. And I think Metroid Prime 3, Mario 128 and Super Smash Bros. Revolution should be enough of Nintendo's major releases in the early life span of Revolution Each one of those three have been at least rumoured to be Revolutions launch titles (Iwata has even told that Mario is aimed to be one). Metroid and Mario aren't 100% sure but Super Smash Bros should definitely be a launch title. Oh, and I almost forgot Miyamoto's new game, whatever it might be. At least at one point it was supposed to be a launch title.

Maybe there'll be two versions, one for GC, and one for Rev (with better graphics and rev controller enabled stuff too, D'uh)

Totally agree with you JP! :-)
