Nintendo yet to confirm DS launch line-up News

DS News by Tom Bramwell

8 October, 2004

Nintendo is still refusing to confirm which of the dozen or so DS titles due out in the 35-day "launch window" will appear alongside the console on store shelves in America on November 21st.

Nintendo of America vice president Perrin Kaplan told reporters yesterday that "five or six" games would be available on November 21st, although that comment was a little ambiguous - it's entirely possible the five or six could include bundled demo Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt and onboard comms software PictoChat.

Earlier this week, a senior Nintendo insider told Eurogamer that the DS would "launch with four games," adding that Metroid Prime Hunters would not be among them. Nintendo has yet to confirm or deny the four-game launch figure, but it has admitted that Hunters will not be available on November 21st.

Indeed, there's still no clarification of the exact names and numbers. Super Mario 64 DS - an amalgam of the N64 classic, with new stars to gather, and the 64x4 multiplayer demo shown off at E3 this past May - seems like an obvious contender, while SEGA's Feel the Magic: XY-XX and Activision's Spider-Man 2 have both also been touted by their respective publishers.

Other titles on Nintendo's list for the "launch window" included Madden NFL 2005, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf, The Urbz: Sims in the City, "a major title" from Activision, Ping Pals, Rayman DS, Asphalt Urban GT, Mr. DRILLER: Drill Spirits and Ridge Racer DS. Games should retail "for as low as $29.99".

As soon as we receive confirmation of the launch line-up, we'll be sure to let you know.

I read somewhere this morning that there's rumoured to be only one Nintendo-developed game ready for the launch. Can't remember where now. I'll go look again.

Does look like it Blerk, dunnit.

Hmmm. Even though I have a soft spot for Nintendo I thought PSP was going to destroy DS. Now my thinking is exactly the opposite.

I'm still not convinced by either. I shall play the 'wait and see' game.

I think it's shaping up quite nicely. There's definitepotential for very interesting applications that the DS could perform, here's hoping they actually become a reality

I just found a new DS flash movie showing some of the games with the touch screen. The games look much better than in the screen shots.

Ta Dant.

Yeah Blerk even though I've got high hopes I'm too old and sensible to do anything other than wait-and-see.

I remember buying a PS1 on the day of launch though. Those were the days!

As far as I know Blerk, that's been misreported. Those games were announced as due out in the "launch window" - the 35 days post-release - which is something Nintendo UK and US reiterated last night...
