In-game extras for Villains News

PC MMO News by Tom Bramwell

8 September, 2005

A special Collector's Edition version of City of Villains will be made available across Europe alongside the standard pack at the end of October - and there'll be in-game bonuses for those who pick it up.

The Collector's package will cost £44.99 / €64.99 (compared to £29.99 / €44.99 for the regular edition) and those who buy it will have access to an exclusive in-game cape and chest emblem from Arachnos.

In addition to a DVD version of the game, the Collector's Edition will also include seven limited edition HeroClix figures from WizKids - three hero figures and four villains, including Lord Recluse himself.

Inside the box there'll also be a map of The Rogue Isles, and a book of artwork from both City of Heroes and City of Villains.

Better yet, there'll be two sets of 14-day trial codes for City of Heroes - the idea being that the purchaser can try it out if he or she hasn't already, and also give one to a friend.

NCsoft has yet to confirm what the subscription fees will be for City of Villains players, but last Thursday lead designer Jack Emmert said players won't be expected to pay double the regular rate, and we should expect an announcement soon.

I'd prefer a real cape and underpants to an "in game" one.

Does anyone know what the server setup will be like? Will it be like Guild Wars where you can play with gamers all over the world on one server or will it be regionalised like World of Warcraft?

Meaning to play with friends in America you'd need to import an American version. Any word on this?

I'd guess it would work the way CoH does at the moment, with the US version connecting to US servers and the EU version connecting to EU servers.

The good news is that PlayNC usually make their games available to buy and download from their site, so you can purchase through them directly without all the import hassle. The bad news is you wont get any of the collectors edition goodies.

CoV has the same server set up as CoH - means a charachter is fixed to a server unfortunately

Never been a factor in my many many hours of play. There's only two English-speaking European servers for CoH anyway, so it should be easy to co-ordinate with mates etc.

Unless your gaming mates live in the US or in parts of the world that get the US version, of course. *sigh* regionalisation stinks.
