Prince of Persia Wii confirmed News

Wii News by Tom Bramwell

8 August, 2006

Having announced a target of seven titles for the Nintendo Wii launch, French publisher Ubisoft has confirmed that it is also developing a new Prince of Persia game for the system.

Last week the company revealed that Red Steel, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Far Cry, Blazing Angels, Monster 4x4 World Circuit, Open Season and GT Pro Series would be around for the launch, but of most interest to many was a disputed version of that press release which was hastily swept under the nearest magic carpet within hours of appearing on a French news website.

That version made reference to a Prince of Persia title, and clearly the publisher has heard the old one about barn doors, horses and bolting. "A game based on the popular Prince of Persia franchise is one of many titles Ubisoft has in development for Nintendo's Wii," the company told 1UP this week. "At this time we can not provide an official date for the game or any additional information about it."

Another example, then of Ubisoft's commitment to Wii, which North American president Laurent Detoc said the company expected to be "a huge success right away". "We want to be the number-one independent publisher for Wii in 2006," he told IGN last week.

YAY!!!

No dark prince, and no chariot racing please!

Oh, and no unskippable cutscenes just after save points and immediately before boss fights (GRRR!)

Hey, Dark Prince was pretty cool (in TTT at least). But I agree with the no chariot racing and the unskippable cutscenes.

Other than those gripes, I must say I am thoroughly excited about this. I can only wonder how the controls will work.

I stopped playing TTT (I like that thanks Rociel!) at the 2nd (or 3rd cant remember) chariott bit. Which was rock hard, and completely different gameplay to the rest of the game.. Spoiled it.

Games developers, if yer going to put in something like this which completely changes the gameplay - how about making it skippable for those of us who DONT want to play it?

I loved SoT, but I got Warrior Within and can't get past the first boss on the boat.

...anyhoo, what isn't mentioned is if this is an exclusive or not.
Will this game be on 360/PS3?

I hope not!

I'm sure this version will be exclusive to the Wii, just as I'm equally sure there'll be a 360/PS3 game to go along with it.

Oh and UBi, while we're scrapping crappy features, fire the guy who designed the double boss, the one in the ring of fire. And give him a slap on the back of his head while you're at it.

7 titles for Wii launch - and this is just from ONE developer.

There’s something to be said here about competition and urinating over it, but I think we've all heard enough Wii jokes now.

And PoP on Wii is excellent news! :)

Well i read recently that a wii devkit only costs developers £1000 each, which when compared to the tens of thousands per devkit for the other two.. AND the fact that wii games will be MUCH cheaper to make than 360/ps3 games, and most companies already have a cube engine, which they just need to soup up to make use of the extra power.

.. and its not hard to see why you would get a lot more games for the wii than the other two. And if enough people buy it, that'll mean even more people making games.. which means more people buying it.. etc etc.

The only problem is if people just dont buy it in the first place.

Wii will see..

(see what i did there? clever or what?)

I think they probably mean the 2006/2007 financial year. Don't ask me why, it's just a (very educated) guess.

With 7 launch titles, they will be no 1 in 2006 since it launches on August 8th. Oh wait, that was yesterday.

Flamebait time : I thought the chariot racing was ace.

Hope they release a combo pack of the original trilogy all running at a solid 60fps! (Pref without sand monsters walking around in the background and the swords digitally replaced with walkie talkies)

Great news one of the biggets publishers getting fully behind the Wii, they've also said they've got more games in developement, really hope none of them are ports from the Xbox 1.
