New WWE game announced

Now with "added realism."

THQ has announced that a new WWE wrestling game is currently in development for the PS2.

WWE SmackDown! Vs. RAW 2006 will include all-new features such as the Momentum System, which is designed to "recreate the real life emotional peaks and valleys of a wrestling match."

Then there's the new Stamina System which is there to make you play more strategically, conserving your energy to ensure your wrestler stays on top form throughout the match. We're told that the online mode has been improved and expanded, too.

"WWE SmackDown! Vs. RAW showcases all the excitement and energy of the WWE," said THQ bigwig Peter Dille.

"This title is primed to deliver the most intense wrestling gameplay along with true-to-life graphics, resulting in the deepest and most realistic wrestling experience ever."

There's no word yet on which WWE Superstars will be appearing in the game, but if history is anything to go by you can expect a few old favourites as well as rising stars - not to mention, of course, the lovely Divas and their jolly Bra and Panties matches.

WWE SmackDown! Vs. RAW is out in the autumn.

    LOL

I've said it before and I'll say it again....

"Two men in pants fighting over a belt isn't entertainment!"
  • bionutz #4 7 years ago

about Red Dwarf: hehehe :) every second one is born (fanboy that is).
towser: yeah, totally right there, even as a child I had the impression this ["wrestling"] was crap.
Who buys this? Anyone in this thread?

    Wrestling with realism?

Do you have to co-ordinate your "fight" beforehand with your "opponent" so nobody gets hurt?

Is it me, or are all of those 'new' features in Day of Reckoning on the Cube, and will be in DoR2?

I've not get tabs on wrestling games in any big way since No Mercy though, so I may be wrong. But I'm sure the stamina system was the big thing about DoR.

I hate wrestling and wrestling games..

But i picked up DOR very cheaply on the cube recently.. and it's fast becomming my favourite game in my collection. It's just done everything soo right (erm appart from tag team matches which are infuriatingly hard).

All other wrestling games i've played have been shite tho'.

Does everyone else read 'WWE' as 'Wee wee', or is it just me?

Well I'm 23 and still a wrestling fan at heart.

JAH, I went through the whole 'I'm a big boy now, I know wrestling is fake' stage, but then you have to step back and take it as fun (and overly camp) entertainment!

I think most of you will also find that wrestling games are actually pretty damn fun in multiplayer mode as well.

Anymore overly obvious snipes at WWE, and I will have to start 'tombstoning' a few heads. ;)

I though this stuff was only big in the US... is the UK this retarded as well? :p

How come every wrestling post gets the same old nieve perspective. It must be seriously tedious trying to flame bait in exactly the same way.

towser: "Ive said it before I'll say it again.."

    Just, not needed.
  • AndyE #14 7 years ago

Just in case any non wrestling fan wants to make a "witty" remark about how "fake" wrestling is I've saved you the bother and summed up your arguments into one sentence:

"Durrrrrrr!!!11! Wrestling is teh fake and Ims smarts for knowings dat! Hurrrrrrrr!!!!111!1!"

Did you also know the toothfairy and Santa are not real?

Jesus Christ, just because they have storylines to make it entertaining (World Wrestling ENTERTAINMENT, get it dipshits?) doesn't mean people can't enjoy it. I bet you fuckers all went to see Batman Begins even though the same basic formula can be applied to it that you apply to wrestling (good guy in costume/mask beats bad guy in costume/mask. And barely any wrestlers still use masks and funny costumes).

star wars is fake, no one complained about that. And besides predetermined and fake are different things. You get powerbombed through an announce table, or jump off a 20 foot ladder and tell me its fake. And besides, its purely entertainment. People don't watch it cos they think its genuine. Its just a bit of fun, with some good storylines (crap recently) and some good characters. oh yeah, John Cena - go away, you suck

The majority of folks are aware of its "pretend nature".

Wrestling, WWE style, is just UTTER shit at the moment though.

Now TNA folks. Proper stuff, that.

People call wrestling boring, but yet watch cricket?
  • DDevil #19 7 years ago

I like the Smackdown! series, but it'll have to be vastly improved to be worth buying this time round.

Like a graphics engine that isn't 5 years old and hasn't been greatly improved on. That would be nice. So materials move and wrestlers don't clip through ropes. Some physics would be nice too!

That doesn't sound like such a bad idea to me

The fight co-ordination idea might not be such a bad one. I can't help but wonder if a wrestling management game has any potential. The idea would be that rather than controling the wrestlers themselves you're the producer or whatever. You control various elements of the 'sport' deciding who fights who (and who wins), controling the personas of your wrestlers by various means (such as costume, moves, etc) and scouting for (and training) new wrestlers. Unlike other sports management games the objective has nothing to do with who wins the match or the league rather it's all about money. You have to engineer events to bring in the most revenue by recognising which wrestlers are popular or not and ensuring that those who are get to be in lots of fights (leading to big audiences) you also have to control merchandising rights and stuff (as a bonus for people who want to just play a traditional wrestling game the sale of game rights will unlock such a mode).

This would be the most realistic wrestling game ever.
