Donkey Kong Revolution

Instant repeater.

The net was abuzz (or perhaps a-blinking, since it's all routers and people with hay fever) earlier this week as reports, I dunno, beamed around that Nintendo had mentioned a new Donkey Kong game for Revolution in the latest edition of Japanese magazine Famitsu.

Which is great. Except, as with quite a bit of the post-E3 news we've seen whirling around in the last two weeks, most of you already knew that. We're pretty sure Nintendo said it at E3. There'll also be Metroid, Mario, Smash Bros., Zelda and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicle titles for Revolution. Did you know there's a PlayStation 3 now, too?

There are no further details on the Donkey Kong title at this point. But given how spiffing the unorthodox Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat turned out on the Cube and how dedicated Nintendo seems to be to its "All-Access Gaming" idea, we're expecting banana-based controllers.

Or, actually, perhaps something like this.

Sarcasm, eh? We sound like tits.

    really there's a playstation 3?

wow, i hadn't read anything about it here @ eurogamer...
  • ali-uk #2 7 years ago

    Haha nice one.

Well, I know Rare made the best Donkey Kong's, so we'll see what this version is like. The N64 one wasn't too bad.

Pilotwings. I want Pilotwings on Revolution....

...not just the snes or n64 versions either.

You guys should still post the news, you know, even if people do complain about having heard it before or having posted it on the forum. You gotta get your news from somewheres and not everyone is on the bleeding edge of the internet all day. Most of the news on this site is news to me, anyway, and I'd consider myself a relatively competent user of the net.
  • spazmo #5 7 years ago

Eurogamer should report the news in an opinionated way. Far more entertaining.
  • #6 7 years ago

why are they commenting on how old the news is?

tons of eurogamers stuff is days or weeks old by the time they publish it, yet now they choose to comment on it?

  • #7 7 years ago

and why when you comment on banana shaped controllers do you make no mention of the PS3? instead you link to a cartoon ripping the piss out of the xbox controllers.

seems to be a missed opportunity there...

Does anyone actually comment about the story any more, or do you all just come here to bitch about how late the news is or how biased Eurogamer has become?

    There's always IGN, you know.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway. Donkey Kong? Schmonkey Kong. DK is rubbish. More Kirby!

Personally I don't care if the news is old in internet terms. Eurogamer is the only site I visit regularly now as I got fed up of either the crap layout, awful reviewing/writing or both of other sites. I don't agree with all of their opinions and reviews, but then I prefer it that way as I think it shows a level of personal integrity I like. A lot of people don't agree with my opinions and ideas either, but that doesn't make them bad people just rather limited in brain capacity ;-)

Speaking of old news (June 7th) IGN and the Revolution

"There's some disappointing news for those expecting these classics to be available for free. Nintendo is planning on pay downloads as being the standard for this download system. There will be many types of services, though, including limited time free downloads. One possibility mentioned by Iwata is free downloads as bonuses for buying new games."

Incidentally, I would like to stab brutally all staff members of gamesradar.com for their shocking coverage of anything to do with the Revolution. It's media factions such as these that raise conspiracy theories such as, eg, off the top of my head, oh I don't know, rich, profit-based bastard companies like M$ and Sony buying out journalists in order to subliminally phase out competition.

I mean, have you actually read any of it?

"despite the console having little to shout about compared to its next-gen contemporaries"

"gamers are now, yet again, waiting for a reason to buy the console"

"as the day progresses the list [of games] is starting to look more and more dubious... this puts substantial doubt in our minds"

    Meh, tabloids.
