GTA LCS to be cheapish?

No word on next-gen GTA.

Take-Two's CEO Paul Eibeler has hinted that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories - the pretty blatantly cynical PS2 port of the PSP game - will be a pretty blatantly cynical port, but it might not cost as much as usual.

Speaking to investors, he rabbited on a bit about pricing. "We've delivered a new game for the PSP, that's a $249 purchase, and we're looking at lower pricing on Liberty City Stories for the console, which is a $149 or below purchase," he said, vaguely comprehensibly.

Elsewhere, Eibeler wouldn't be drawn on Take-Two's position with regard to the PS3 ("our crystal ball doesn't address [its release date]," he quipped), but did give indications that we're not going to see a next-gen Grand Theft Auto game until fiscal 2007 at the earliest - i.e. not for ages.

No news either of Table Tennis for Xbox 360, which Rockstar announced this month. Although you can probably guess what that's like anyway.

I'm sorry, what? What's $149? Are you missing a decimal place?

he is refering to the prices of the consoles themselves not the game.

Hopefully it will come out at £20.

However sony may have something to say about this as it will severly damage PSP sale if the game is released at about half the price.

Hmm... will be interested to see what they can do with "next-gen" GTA - everything in previous GTA's (character models in particular) have looked absolutely horrible!

Now that's not very nice! ;)

Are you f**king insane? Sometimes it looked ordinary, but some of the scenery in San Andreas was outstanding.

Sorry for not being "cool" in bagging GTA. In my opinion, there games are still by far and away the best I've played in 15 years. Easily

Losing respect for EG (I've never said this before, unlike some). That little crack at Rockstar at the end of the news piece just smacks tall poppy syndrome. pathetic

@Perry , i actualy agree with asphaltcowboy, that in some respects the GTA games are graphicaly pretty nasty looking. However i do agree that they some of the best games ever produced.

Hopefully with Next-Gen we could get, not just amazing gameplay, but also amazing visuals. (To be honest i would be happy if it just looked as good as MGS3)

I belive that criticising GTA makes me cool.

    Even cooler than the Fonz.

What crack? As far as I can tell they're merely pointing out that most people know what tabletennis is like
  • Perry #12 6 years ago

    @sickpuppysoftware
If that is the way you read it, fair enough. Call me cynical, but to me it seems they are "dissing" a title without seeing it. Granted, it could be because it is a table tennis title, but I get the feeling it is not
  • el_pollo_diablo #13 6 years ago

I'm well up for a table tennis game.

Give me that over football anyday.

The GTA games have got to be the most over-rated games in history. Every time I play one, the same thing happens - I get thoroughly bored.
  • matrim83 #15 6 years ago

@ symmetry : Yet you've bought all of them, played all of them and care enough to come into a thread related to them.

    F**kin trolls.
  • kgthatsme #16 6 years ago

    exactly.

Anyway, the graphics were cartoony on the ps2 to reduce the media critisism. slightly
  • Shadar #17 6 years ago

You got that from Rockstar themselves, I guess?

Hey, I think it's entirily okay to be a little cynical towards Rockstar when all they can produce is carbon copies of GTA 3 with 80s and 90s pop culture skins. I also think it's okay to roll your eyes at them when Sony's big cash cow and system seller shows so little faith in the success of the PSP.

Yes, I know they made Manhunt, State of Emergency and the Warriors, and are supposed to be putting out Bully, but none of them were particularly good. And all of a suddent they announce a ping pong game out of nowhere, conveniently just after Take Two has had to settle a slew of expensive cases out of court to put a lid on all the negative media attention.

I am frantically rolling my eyes.

I thought GTA 3 and all the ones after, were AWESOME LOOKING.

San Andrease was SOOOOO Huge it felt SOOOOOOO immersive.

Hell, I loved it on PSP too.

Next level graphics (PS3) with bigger more interactive worlds, makes my mouth water!
  • HelloWorld #19 6 years ago

As long as they expand on the hot coffee bit i'm sold.
  • symmetry #20 6 years ago

    @matrim83

    "you've bought all of them"

    I didn't say that.

    "played all of them"

    I didn't say that either.

"come into a thread related to them"

I did do that. 1/3, not bad.

I am interested in all gaming news and can go where I like and say what I like. So nerrr.

Hmmm you clearly mention playing them (plural as in more than one). Since you did play them I just assumed you bought them.

And you did troll. Like it or not. So na na na na naaaah nah.

Eh screw it. This is pointless.

Here do you like olive branches?

    Mmmmmm, Olives.

They are selling a port of a port? o.O
  • dk_rare #24 6 years ago

    @matrim83

You can't get bored with summat unless you play it, so of course he has played them! What, do you get bored of games you have never played?
