The Movies dated

So, um, does that make this Black & White/Movies day?

The Movies has gone gold and will be released across Europe on November 11th, according to publisher Activision. It's out in the US three days prior to that on the 8th. Look for it on PC, PS2, Xbox and Cube. And, no, we're not doing a "That's a wrap" joke.

As you know, The Movies is another brainchild of renowned British developer Peter Molyneux and his Lionhead development studio, and sees the player building up a Hollywood empire from scratch, dabbling in talent-spotting and even direction along the way. Perfect if you've ever wanted to slap the little prima donnas around a bit.

It's been in development for a pretty long time, and has some typically ambitious ideas. You can read more about it in our ages-old preview, and we'll have a review up as we draw closer to the game's release date. Or premiere or whatever you want to pun it.

In the meantime, today also sees the European release of Molyneux's Black & White 2. Hopefully The Movies has done a better job of colouring its ideas.

Yaaaayyy!! I've been waiting for this one for ages. I'm preordering it right now.

    Only kidding ;)

Well if the review of b&w2 is anything to go by,no doubt this style over substance game will do just as well in the reviews.
  • Stickman #3 7 years ago

I really hope this is good, but most of all, I really hope I can have as much fun annoying retards as I have in the B&W2 comments section.

OK slide_away, I'm sorry. I actually felt bad after writing my comment because pointless /yawns type posts really aren't my bag.

In this case though it was the first thing that popped into my head and before I could control my fingers, out it came. I've followed the progress of this game for a while as it happens and even applied for a job working on it a few years back. Didn't get any comeback though, maybe thats why I'm being stroppy ;)

I'm quite hung over as well if that is any kind of excuse.

slide_away: We like to keep the forum all nice and tidy. That's why some of us come on these comments threads to try and get a rise out of 'tards like you! Never fails either. You're like a little stress vent!
  • Yossarian #6 7 years ago

actually, where is all the X05 previews and stuff I was expecting?
  • T4RG4 #7 7 years ago

I think you'll find The Movies to be very strong actually - for a number of reasons.
  • Stickman #8 7 years ago

Where did I mention that offending me in any way? I'm merely asking, you understand? ;)

    (Awww come on! Play!)
  • Fatfish #9 7 years ago

slide_away - sorry, did I read your post right?

    /re-reads post/

Yes, I did and it still reads the same - rarely get a rise out of you? What about all your blatant pedantic comments and fanboy ravings then? Surely that's a 'rise' if ever I read one!! :)

Go on, bite.........I dare you....... ;)
  • Hunam85 #10 7 years ago

from what i gather, this has had more monlyneux time that B&W2 did, and infact, more everything, should be good

    /remembers MS 3d movie maker
  • Fatfish #11 7 years ago

They're bound to add script expansion packs in the same way they expanded the Sims - how long before a Hot Coffee porn version appears then?
  • Tiger_Walts #12 7 years ago

I'm more interested in The Movies than B&W2, sadly I doubt I have the HDD space to run either.
  • Stickman #13 7 years ago

Not only that tengu, but he went back in to edit his comment, about how he wasn't going to bite! HAHAHAHAHAHA! Brillliant!
  • Fatfish #14 7 years ago

Wind him up and watch him go......

slide_away - It's admirable that you've chosen to take the moral high ground.........although empty threats of going "mental" on us is effectively retaliation - which in itself is biting! :D

Quote - "what's the motivation behind that?"

Friday afternoon boredom, sat in an office with feck all to do but taunt you because we know you'll bite eventually I'd guess!

Back to the subject and an attempt to play along with your (oddly out of character) mature discussion - no, I haven't seen the murder/affair additions. I would have thought they would be included though as they are fairly main stream movie themes. Is there a B-movie section as well? That would be pretty cool - making your own grainy black and white movie about how Billy from 6th grade manages to save all the towns folk from flying saucers and giant killer ants from the desert!

    @slide_away and Stickman

Look you two. Shake hands and apologise. If you want to wind someone up, combine your powers and head over to the Lionhead forums. You will find loads of people there you can annoy without having to annoy each other. And the excercise will do you good as you both have far too much energy.

slide_away, I'm a designer. My application for this was a few years back, not long after I had joined the industry (I'm 30 now, but had a previous life before games) and pretty near the start of the project as I recall. I think the role description was level/script designer/writer or something along those lines.

I'd heard it said some place that the X-Box version (and, presumably for that matter, the other console versions), had been cancelled, leaving this a PC only title.

I hope to God that's not true, as this really does seem interesting and different enough to warrant releasing on consoles as well.

It's about time we had more variety and cross-genres of PC-esque games, as we're not just mindless racing and FPS games players you know!
  • Stickman #18 7 years ago

    Kangarootoo - No need! ;)
  • Talha #19 7 years ago

Hey, what's this mystery about Slide_Away and his comments? Have I missed out on something juicy, 'cos I can't Mr Slidey anywhere here! C'mon guys tell me.

Anyway, the game looks really good - probably will buy without reading the EG review (sometimes all they do is depress you for finding enjoyment in a turd!), which will take ages anyway since the game is so long.

And yes, the moviemaking part reminds you of Microsoft's 3D Moviemaker. Wonder where has that gone!

Still looking forward to this one. Hoping it won't be a flop.
