LSWII Cube not canned

Just Amazon's not selling it.

Activision has denied that the GameCube version of Lego Star Wars II has been cancelled despite Amazon UK informing customers who'd pre-ordered it that they won't be able to sort them out.

"The GC version of LSWII has not been canned but will be available as an exclusive with GAME Stores," an Activision spokesperson said this afternoon.

"The Amazon email that was sent just stated that the order had been cancelled and that they had not been charged for it. I think someone has misinterpreted that to mean that the game had been canned."

So then, you can still look forward to the game on PS2, Xbox, PC, DS, PSP and Cube - but the latter is only available at GAME. For some reason.

Who's gonna pay £39.99 for the Cube version when you can get the PS2 one for £17.99?
  • Blerk #5 6 years ago

Kind of ironic that GAME take an interest in the Cube now that it's dead, non?
  • The_Foo_Fighter #6 6 years ago

I hate GAMNEMONEMY so much that I refuse to write their name without disfiguring it with my keyboard of spite.

Retards in the stores, shameful pre-owned pricing, wanky trade-in deals - to name just three reasons why GEMNOMAENO should be wiped off the face of the UK.

I thought it was coming to 360 too?
  • Cabelo #9 6 years ago

Got three deadly games for 35 quid in Game the other day.

    Sands of Time,
    Ico,
    X-men Legends.

Best 35 euro worth of second hand games I've missed ever.
  • rhinoxious #10 6 years ago

GAME have made a habit of suppporting systems after they've been dropped by electrical high street retailers. It makes good business sense, especially with the huge margins they make on pre-owned software, which becomes key to ailing formats.
  • Wayne #11 6 years ago

Anyone know where I could get a cheap copy of the first Lego Star Wars for the Gamecube?
  • Xerx3s #12 6 years ago

    35 quid > 35 €. :\
  • LOLLERS #13 6 years ago

Who's gonna pay £39.99 for the Cube version when you can get the PS2 one for £17.99?

People that only own a Gamecube? Or is this a trick question?
  • JetSetWilly #14 6 years ago

LOLLERS - yeah, well i take your point.

What I should have said is that the price differential will mean that multi-system owners will choose the PS2 version (unless they like thrpwing money away) over the Cube. Thus furthering the impression that Nintendo owners don't like third-party games.

  • blender #15 6 years ago

Import it from DVDcrave.com £17 delivered. (Australia PAL so 100% compatible and english)
Game are abusing their monopoly charging an extortiante price

also, gameplay.co.uk are owned by game and so will do it for £30. Still a rip off compared to other systems

  • getinthereson #17 6 years ago

Yeah i think there's a typo, Isn't it coming out on the 360 but NOT the original xbox? Definately out on the 360 as that is the version Edge magazine reviewed.
  • aine #18 6 years ago

    ...are they?
  • dadrester #19 6 years ago

i worked for EB (same as game) while i was travelling around new zealand, and they fucking loved me in there. i used to give all the hardcore gamers discounts without the managers knowing and in return they'd chat with me about games to while away the hours of boredom. the managers seeing me keeping such big spenders in the store for so long, in return gave me the best shifts (i.e. the most hours) and constantly invited me to barbecues and got me drunk for free. score.

  • Blerk #20 6 years ago

    ...are they?

Yes. GAME bought them a year or so back.

And LSW2 is coming out for both the 360 and the original Xbox, for the guys asking above.
  • JohnnyWashnGo #21 6 years ago

Bloody hell, what is the reasoning behind THAT decision?

GAME are dreadful is most every respect. Customer service is poor. Selection of games is pityful. The price is bordering on wallet abuse.

I do not want to give them any of my money but I really want to play LSWII.

I dont have a Sony or Microsoft home console, so the cheaper versions are out of the question.

There are 3 game stores in leicester.
2 Have no cube games at all.
1 has about 2 small shelves.

    What a disgrace.

DVDcrave don't have the first Star Wars Lego game :0(
  • blender #25 6 years ago

i'm pretty sure amazon uk are the only shop to stock the FIRST lego star wars. I'd grab it now as people will want more after playing this new game.
  • JohnnyWashnGo #26 6 years ago

The postage cost of LSWII from DVDCrave makes the price of the game come to around £30.

Anybody interested in clubbing together to get several copies and cutting down on the cost?
  • kangarootoo #27 6 years ago

While we are on the subject of stores. There is a GAMESTATION store built into my local BlockBuster and they are f'king great.

All staffed by teenagers so there is the expected amount of hype and rumour if you chat with them about new unreleased stuff, but they are on the ball when it comes to customer service and are always friendly and interested in chatting about games. Their trade in prices are about the norm, but their pre-owned stuff is usually very well priced.
  • Aria #28 6 years ago

    @JetSetWilly
I agree; even though the graphics are slightly smoother and more vivid on Cube than on PS2, I still think the x2+£4 price difference is stupid.
  • SharkVLion #29 6 years ago

Game where I live is just choco with **nts; and The_Foo_Fighter comments are spot on regarding the place being full of retards; Every other customer is ChavScum trying to steal something and the staff are arrogant teenage pricks full of thier own self importance.. It's actually quite an amuzing place to go just to see the staff/customer interaction :D Watch them try and out-posture/out-intellect one another :D hilarious..

But you'll come away feeling kind of dirty...
  • blender #30 6 years ago

"The postage cost of LSWII from DVDCrave makes the price of the game come to around £30. "

    Dont use UPS!

Use Priority Air Mail! Shipping costs = £1.83

    Total £18.03 deliverd
  • Aria #31 6 years ago

    @Kangarootoo
Where is your local Gamestation? I'm just curious, because the one in my area is also built into a BlockBuster store.
  • MDL199 #32 6 years ago

Can't blame Amazon really I mean virtually nobody owns a Cube anyway - you ever seen how pathetic GC sales figures are?
  • Aria #33 6 years ago

    @MDL199
How do you know who owns what?
  • polymorph #34 6 years ago

I think im right in saying that gamestation are owned by blockbuster, hence why they are in the same store. Its the same here in Eastbourne.
  • Tweakmonkey #35 6 years ago

A game like LSWII deserves to be on the GC because it's for kiddies ;-)
  • SharkVLion #36 6 years ago

You want to be ordering from Gameplay.co.uk, if you're in the UK that is..

Low prices and generally good service and turnaround; they're great (or have been with me) for new releases as they usually get them to you the day before the official release date (if that matter to you, which it does to me for some reason....)

Oh; and I have no vested interest in promoting Gameplay by the way.. just that they are always spot on with my orders.

Oh ok, mine's in Holloway. Farnborough in South East London?
  • kangarootoo #40 6 years ago

Nah, its out in the sticks SW of London.
  • Kazzahdrane #41 6 years ago

You nice people shopping in Gamestations built into Blockbusters should take note that Blockbuster are leaving the UK completely in the near(ish) future, which probably means saying goodbye to the Gamestation outlets intside their stores.

Also, Gamestation are selling LGSW2 for £19.99 BRAND NEW.

    Craziness.
  • kangarootoo #42 6 years ago

Really? Bloody hell. Where will I rent DVDs and buy peanut M&Ms from?

They seem to be getting stronger online all the time, so maybe they are planning to shift completely over to that.

I can't imagine them just closing stores and leaving them empty though. Some bright spark with a huge sack of money will likely take over their rental stores en masse (Tesco or Virgin would be my bets, probably in that order).
  • Sabre #43 6 years ago

Its 29.99 on Cube not 39.99. Its 39.99 on Xbox 360.
  • Mr_Sleep #44 6 years ago

"Tesco or Virgin would be my bets, probably in that order"

I laugh at the idea of Virgin having any money. Har. Any high street store that sells just entertainment products, like games and music, are screwed at the moment. I doubt anyone but Tesco would do it, they've got all the money and they're moving out towards entertainment specific stuff, apparently.

Edit: I'd also like to concur with the above regarding GAME, they really are just pitifully bad, all of their stores that I've been in have been laid out in the most awkward manner possible, making it impossible to actually get past all the women with prams who've been dragged in there by their mewling kids. The absolute worst (or best depending on how you look at it) example of this is the one in Ealing Broadway, pick the wrong time in there and it's hell, it's like wading through treacle trying to get through there, also every time I go in there recently some kid is trying to convince me to buy a certified 15 or 18 game for them.

One time a kid asked me to buy one that only had a suggested rating on it, not the BBFC one, there isn't any legal problem with him buying it to my knowledge. Although it might be that GAME have a policy on that, I don't know.

£22 for Mario Kart doube dash did piss me off quite a bit, god if only I'd known the wonders of CEX and I wasn't in a rush to buy it for something.

Gamestation, my only complaint is hearing rap music in their store, not the rap music itself but the defeaning, speaker breaking volume of it.

Given that both the Game stores in my area have pulled their entire Gamecube sections, going so far as to not even stock Pre-owned GC stuff, I have to wonder how this is going to work out for them.
  • blender #46 6 years ago

they will put it in the lego star wars section.
  • Dr.Mott #47 6 years ago

I'll be getting this on PSP. I need a good PSP game these days.
  • ProtoformX #48 6 years ago

See, I work in Game and I have to agree with most of what is said. The company's a crappy one to work for too. When I ask my manger about our prices (Why we charge £3 for our Reward Card I'll never know) he says that they're good prices. when I point out that Gamestation are selling something for £5 or £10 cheaper then us he generally gives a response along the lines of "Well if they want to shoot themselves in the foot they can." When I joined the company I mentioned on my CV I'd been gaming since the days of the NES, etc, thinking that they would only hire people with gaming knowledge. That's crap. Total crap. In the end everyone in the store comes to ask me about almost anything because I know more than them. And I don't know much compared to some people on here.
For some reason we are going totally nuts about exclusives The Rome: Total War Alexander expansion has been out for electronic distribution for some time, but now it's getting a disc version - only in Game of course. There's some other stuff that we're getting, but I can't remember what. Couple all this some appalling console deals (Pop into a Game next time you see one folks and compare the games on offer on the DS deal with those on the DS Lite deal) and it's not a lot of fun trying to sell a DS Lite. "Yeah, you can have Big Brain Academy or... ummm.... take your pick from 7 movie tie-ins...?"
And yeah, you also get the chav scum. Some customers are good gamers who have good opinions on the latest releases and you can hold a conversation with them. But most just wanna know when PS3/FIFA 07/Pro Evo 6/Vice City Stories is out. Aside from that the company doesn't treat it's employees massively well. When I leave, I'll have a sense of loyalty to my store as I like the people I work with, but will that be strong enough to keep me going back there when I can get it so much cheaper online? Probably not.

Sorry, long rant. Had to get it off my chest.
  • The_Foo_Fighter #49 6 years ago

"In the end everyone in the store comes to ask me about almost anything because I know more than them."

You started off so well Proto... then you slipped back into character.
  • ProtoformX #50 6 years ago

lol, having just read what I said, I put that the wrong way. What I mean is that all the other staff come and ask me what the customers are talking about. I was trying to make the point that indeed the vast majority of people who work in Game stores are idiots, at least in terms of gaming knowledge. I don't know huge amounts myself. I simply play as many new releases as I can afford so I know what to recommend and read this site every day. We had a new guy start about a week ago and he said "So what's the difference between the 360 in the green box and the 360 in the white box?" I nearly hit him, I really did.

I for one am absolutely disgusted at this.

They pulled the same crap with Morrowind, releasing it only through EB.

They announced that before they had any EB stores anywhere near where I live.

What sort of company would deliberately reduce their sales like that?

Games are not like fancy restaurants, being exclusive doesn't benefit them.
