Half-Life 2: Ep 2 vids News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Tom Bramwell

7 September, 2006

As you'll know if you've been keeping score, Valve has released a trio of new gameplay videos showing off the sorts of things you'll be getting up to in Half-Life 2: Episode Two next year.

They're all available now on Eurogamer TV. Look! One, two and three.

And while I'd love to tell you what's in them, I'm not going to because I don't want to spoil anything - for me or you.

The full game, which will be bundled with Portal and Team Fortress 2 on Steam for the PC, and released as part of a bundle that also includes Half-Life 2 and Episode One on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, is due out in the first quarter of next year.

February, they told us at Leipzig - but obviously that's subject to change.

I can't watch em, I'm still too mad about this not coming out in 2006, Valve don't get to call it 'episodic' gaming unless they release at least one freakin' episode per year!

Oh people go on and watch them. That might be the only Episode 2 content you get to see for an entire year, knowing Valve.

Not to mention that they do look marvelous, unparalleled in fact.

Does anyone know if it'll be possible to buy Episode 2 on its own for the 360? I've already finished HL2 and Ep 1 on the PC and I want to play Ep 2 on the 360 without having to shell out for HL2/Ep1 again.

@disc: Freaked y'all out, right?? >;-)

@gazareth: Given that it's quite an obvious problem likely to be faced by many XBox owners, it is highly likely Valve will address it. Especially when they make their episodes stand-alone, when a few lines of code could have forced millions to buy/retain their HL2 installations just to play Episode 1. Valve are not Evil!! Damn you Valve and your delays! Come to think of it, could the PS3 have had anything to do with the set back? Valve are going for a simultaneous launch and obviously the PS3 wouldn't have been out in Europe by the original date.

It won't be out here by the revised date either.

I'm hoping the PC and 360 versions will be released, then the PS3 version will follow when the machine is released.

Oh god, I've just thought of something horrible.

Imagine if Sony paid Valve enough money to make it PS3 exclusive?

*shudder*

I thought it was Q1 now?

Frankly, I think they should forget this simultaneous launch bollocks. Feels like a bit of a kick in the teeth for PC owners who were told we were getting episodic releases every six months.

February Valve said, with the PS3 coming in March. It's only a month, but hey.

If the game ships for all formats on the day the PS3 comes out, we can probably assume it's been finished for a while, and even PC owners got screwed by the whole date-slipping debacle.

can't wait for this...

half life 2, epsiodes 1 & 2, team fortress 2 and portal all on one disk for xbox360 (PS3) too... that has got to be some value for money that (just as long as they don't charge £60 quid that is!)

I'd honestly be surprised if they stuck it all in one package dredd97, just a bit *too* generous from a Capatalist viewpoint.
