Episode 2/TF2/Portal at Leipzig News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Tom Bramwell

7 August, 2006

Valve Software is planning to show off Half-Life 2: Episode Two along with bonus add-ons Team Fortress 2 and Portal at the Leipzig Games Convention.

"We're all working around the clock," the company said on Friday.

Up to now, Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal have only been shown in private press demonstrations, meaning that for once the general public will get to see them at pretty much the same time the press corps does.

Games Convention, which runs between August 24th and 27th, will also play host to what many expect to be a new Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots trailer, the Xbox 360 version of Pro Evolution Soccer (both Konami) and playable versions of Test Drive Unlimited and Neverwinter Nights 2 (both Atari).

Valve hopes to release Half-Life 2: Episode Two for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 before the end of the year. All three versions will include TF2 and Portal, while the console versions will also feature the original Half-Life 2 and Episode One as part of the package.

20 $ says HL 2 for the consoles is uglier, has auto aim (to compansate for n00b controls) and a crappier online play.

Unrelated to the article but I'm surprised at how imminent Leipzig is. Am I right in thinking all the final Wii details are to be announced at this show?

That's a bit unfair smoison...there's not a single game out on 360 and PC where the PC version looks better and auto aim is a compensation sure, but with Xbox Live, online play could potentially be so much better than on PC...and that's coming from a lover of CSS

Sooooo, let me get this straight. Console owners get HL2, HL2:EpOne, TF2 and Portal all in one game? And PC owners don’t?

Grrr!

Prey on my 2 year old PC easily looks and runs better than the 360 version. Ditto Battlefield 2 I reckon. Maybe Far Cry too, although those latter examples were ported-up version of Xbox titles.

I'd argue with Prey...especially as, personally, I'm much happier sitting on a sofa across the room with a wireless pad than I am hunched over a desk...it's just more relaxing.

You're right about BF2 and Far Cry though...however, they aren't the same as the PC versions. Far Cry is an upscaled port of a downscaled port, like you say, but BF2 is a totally different game.

Maybe, but at a £49.99/£59.99 price tag

The couch factor is true but I'd still say in terms of Graphics and framerate, the PC version on my 2 year old rig looks better than the 360 version.

In a game where the textures dont improve at that resolution, you don't notice the difference. It's better on a widescreen 32" anyway. Besides, you'd need to spend the best part of £1500 to run at those kind of details.

Don't get me wrong, until the 360 came along, I played more PC games than any other, but a lot of PC gamers really would benefit from the 360 experience as the two go hand in hand...it annoys me when PC elitists describe console counterparts that are graphically equal (Albeit with lazy framerate issues) as "ugly".

Well there was no way my PC was ever going to run Oblivion. So a 360 was the cheaper option tbh. Would I rather have had t3h uber PC graphics upgrade? Well yeah, like duh.

Awww, I love it when PC gamers complain about analogue sticks. I feel sorry for people with spack hands.

Ditto - there's always going to be some difference, it just depends how much value you put on that minor difference.

And of course if you spent £1500+ basically just to see it, it would seem more important to you...
