Lady gamers get voice changer

Are you a lady gamer? There's a 99.9999999999 per cent chance you're not, according to our reader demographic data, but anyway, Sheila from Lancs, this is for you.

Audio4Fun is launching a new piece of voice changer software that's designed to stop female gamers getting hassled by stinky old boys, snappily titled AV Voice Changer Software.

According to research conducted by the company, "The number of female online game players is not small", would you believe. In fact, "Many of them have reached the highest level of some very difficult games such as World of Warcraft (60th level), which is considered the game for men only." Bless their lacy little cotton socks.

The software comes with presets which turn lady voices into big deep Blessed-esque ones. You can also create your own new voice by mucking about with pitch and timbre settings, and other features include advanced tune and noise reduction.

In essence, "AV Voice Changer Software is somehow a unique product for female online game players who want to prove that playing online games is not a pastime for men only, and that their talent can make male partners goggle."

    Well, there's quite a few girlies in my guild (about 12 in a guild of about 70) and not one of them feel that they have to hide their voice. And why should they? We all have fun and a laugh over TS.

    I suspect this is primarily for the juvenile LIVE market. Even I don't talk over live. A lot of the people you get on there are just annoying*.

    Visited site and had a listen to the voice samples. I kinda have my doubts that the 'nice man' mp3 is the original sample.

    This does offer potential...my gf hates using voice comms on counterstrike, as do a few of her friends, as they get harrassed by male players.

    But as mentioned, this isn't solving the issue...women gamers should be MORE vocal and showing the boys how it's done.

    This stinks of century-old times when female writers used to use male names to sell their books.

    Oh bloody hell. As a female gamer who uses voice chat with my Final Fantasy XI linkshell, this makes me feel slightly sick. In my experience, we take the piss out of eachother's accents rather than the fact that I'm a girl. Besides, hearing them all go silent in confusion when you say the word "bollocks" is great.
    Be your-bloody-self, says I, and if you find gamers who intimidate you for being a girl, prove you're better than them at the game or something. Besides, my mates can always hear me over the din of male droning American voices, when I'm shouting at them to do something when we're about to wipe on some monster-or-other. Having a girly voice is far better.

    Male only game indeed. I'll tkae my double level 75 character and shove it up your voice changer.

    "WoW is for men only" just sounds like a bitt of propaganda by the company to sell thier software.
    I'm not a WoW player but the way I hear/read people talk about it, it's always considered a game for both men and women and the player base reflects that. And that most players are friendly, instead of assholes.

    That old tired cliché of it being a "social experience" getting more female players into the MMORPG genre.

    Oh I studied female/male ratios on online (MMO) games as part of my dissertation at uni, and they're the most equal distribution than any other genre of game.

    Surely if you're pretending to be male, it's just going to reinforce the perception that the game is just for male gamers?

    If someone harasses you, isn't there an ignore button on most games to solve that little problem? Harassment isn't just to do with gender, make a game big enough and there's idiots to annoy anyone and everyone out there.

    Bollocks. I doubt that there are other game with as many female gamers as WoW or The Sims. And hiding (or masking) isn't the way to solve the problems. Reporting harassment and banning imature retards until they react normally to the presence of a female gamer is.

    yeah, i was gonna say, girls actully tend to handle MMO's better than most genre's, maybe its the social network that brings them in.

Right. I wouldn't be surprised if it just made the women gamers sound like a butch chain-smoking dyke, which would probably lead them to further ridicule.

    this is akin to a movie where a shitty football team is doing badly but there is a female player who is really good for some inexplicable reason, but she she cant play on the team as its a boys team so she dresses up like a boy and helps them win the championship.

    I had a go at changing my (very male) voice into a female voice for erm...research, and the funny thing is most of the preset voices make you sound like a chipmunk from London.

    ehhhhhh, 'AV Voice Changer Software' has been on the market for years. A case of conflicting brand names? Anyway, voice manipulation is bull. It is so anoying that I usually mute the person who has it right away (like me mate who uses chipmonkey voices ;p).

    The article was successfull for it's maker. It's enough to throw in the old "conflict" boy/girl in MMO's and you get a lot of heat on your webpage...
    It's nothing new, voice changers are on the market for quite sometime already. But most of them are crappy anyway.
    I'm using one myself for fun sometimes, but one that is cheaper, and also let's you modify the default effects.([link url=http://www.scramby.com)]http://www.scramby.com)[/ link] Which I found on the forums here.

    And it lets you go from man to woman too :))

    HAHAHA Nice! Ive thought about the same thing myself! Im a female who plays WoW.. lvl 85, been raiding since BC.. and men are insane on there! Ive tried convincing them that Im a 50yr old fat man w/ a giant unibrow that I use as a combover.. but thanks to my voice on vent, none of them believe it. Plus.. I could pull some funny pranks on my raid :p
