Viva Piņata hats and stuff

Including a Santa one.

And so we return to one man's excitable quest to get you all to buy Viva Piņata, because it's great and I need someone to send me a crowla because I broke my last one.

This week's instalment is thinly veiled by highlighting the release of some new Xbox Live Marketplace content - in the shape of sweet and sour piņata picture packs (five of each - if you're confused, think good and evil), and the far more exciting prospect of some new accessories.

As with previous accessory packs, you're asked for 90 Microsoft points (GBP tuppence halfpenny) in exchange for which you get mermaid's earrings, romance earrings and a Santa hat to buy from the Paper Pets store in the village. The picture packs, meanwhile, cost 80 points. Don't forget you can see roughly what you're getting by looking carefully at the accompanying graphic.

And while we're here it seems almost churlish not to reiterate our love for Viva Piņata, or indeed not to mention our recent studio visit feature complete with video interviews and all sorts.

Remember: Viva Piņata for Christmas number one! Colonel Quackington demands it.

    "mermaid's earrings"

Is it just me, or does mermaid's earrings seem like a euphemism for something, along the lines of gnome's pocket and wizard's sleeve?

I'm so childish today, maybe its because its nearly Xmas (the season of spending money, once you get to my age :( )

    Otter's pocket, surely?

It's great. Onto the issue of LIVE offerings, anyone else find it quite annoying that from within LIVE it's impossible to preview what it is your buying (apart from the occasionally picture pack that shows tiny, low-res versions of what you're buying)? Normally I try and take a look on the US marketplace website but new stuff isn't always there... and the UK one is updated even LESS often! I'm not gonna buy until I can see stuff properly!.

I still don't get why I need to dress up my Pinata??? Just for fun or is there a purpose? I dressed up one just to see, but it got eaten a few minutes later so all my investements were wasted.

If I buy this game and it turns out to be shit I shall slice off my cock and post it to Eurogamer Towers in a sealed box marked "penisla".

    Or perhaps I won't. I need coffee.

    @Jontacular

I'm sure its like a spoken language, with slightly differeing dialects in different locations :)

For those with the VP song stuck in their heads, may I suggest Bellero (the Torvil and Dean song) as a suitable replacement. Take it from me, once that f'cker takes root in your mind there is no bloody shifting it.
  • CountStiltzkin #11 6 years ago

Glad I'm not the only one who gave their pinata military titles...huzzah for us.
  • Nostromo13 #12 6 years ago

  • teabagger #13 6 years ago

I was thinking more along the lines of pearl necklace rather than wizards sleeve.
  • morriss #14 6 years ago

    Bought 'em. Fuck it.
  • Huntcjna #15 6 years ago

Morriss in microsoft corporate shill shocker! :D
  • speedjack #16 6 years ago

Its between this and GOW for game of the year IMHO

...and to be honest Piņata just edges it.
  • psychokitten #17 6 years ago

I've got crowlas. Mmmm crowlas. The roarios and galagoogoos are awesome.
  • Mr_Brown #18 6 years ago

Hmm, gonna buy this today. Hopefully helps VP getting to number one Chrimbo charts (not likley though) anyone tell me what you get extra with the Limited Edition one though?
  • AFX #19 6 years ago

The limited edition is entirely pointless over the regular one. You basically get an interesting looking case and a bonus disc, which has nothing you can't already get off the Live Marketplace for free (Including an episode of the cartoon).

you are a life saver. :)

/Runs away from anything Viva Pinata.

    Viva Piņata! Filled with fun!

Love this game, although everybody's laughing at me for doing so. IMHO it's equal with ESIV:o (or Oblivion, for short) for game of the year. Since I bought VP I haven't touched GoW anymore. Saving that for a later day, I'm afraid :)
  • L42yB #22 6 years ago

    @Jheronimus

LOL :) Yeh, I bought both games last friday and while gears did get a good 6 or so hours of gameplay out of me b4 I even put Viva Pinata in my 360, once I started playing Viva a couldn't stop and Gears has been collecting dust... I will get to it eventually tho...

Another one brought to you from the "paying to unlock something already on the disc" microtransaction scam department. Please nobody buy these, it's like saying:

"YES! I want you to disable content pre-ship, so I can pay for the unlock codes later!"
  • dllord #24 6 years ago

I think i'll buy VP after i've finished Zelda on my Wii!
  • Poorandugly #25 6 years ago

    Sexual innuendo ftw!

    (Zelda review tomorrow I hope)
  • gaijin #26 6 years ago

"YES! I want you to disable content pre-ship, so I can pay for the unlock codes later!"

    there. said it.

I do have to admit that the prospect of a santa hat is probably the only thing that would make me fall for it tho.
  • kangarootoo #27 6 years ago

    @bloodflowers

"Another one brought to you from the "paying to unlock something already on the disc" microtransaction scam department."

This has already been discussed before. The fact that the data lives on the disc instead of on an XBLive swerver somewhere is irrelevant these days. It has nothing to do with the cashflow structure of the development (which is really what decides whether you pay for something at purchase or later on as an option).

I know it feels like you are being ripped off because the data is physically in your hands and so it feels like you "already own it" (when of course you don't own any of it, you simply own a license to use it), but its just not relevant.
  • gaijin #28 6 years ago

kangarootoo - another eminently sensible and reasonably argued response, for which much thanks. Personally I feel that no man(/pinata) with a santa hat needs to be justified...
