Double Agent SP demo News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

6 December, 2006

Having already done a multiplayer demo for both Xbox 360 and PC and a single-player demo for the latter, Ubisoft has completed the set by uploading a single-player demo for Splinter Cell: Double Agent to Xbox Live Marketplace.

It's available everywhere except Asia, for some reason, but, yes, it's exclusive to Xbox Live Gold members (for around seven days, we're told). Oh, and it's 505MB in size.

For more on Double Agent, be sure to check out Kristan's lengthy review, where he no doubt glosses over the fact that Metal Gear Solid si r0x0r.

And don't forget the other demos, because if you don't believe in them, they won't bring you presents at Christmas.

Been playing this on my new 360 and its great fun (the Kinshasa mission is particularly memorable). Been meaning to get into SC and this game has got me thinking of trying the others now.

Nice, just after I ordered it cheap from Play. Oh well, gave it a quick play to see if I should bother unwrapping it, and it seems good.

I can't understand this whole thing about releasing demos to Gold users only. Surely developers want everyone to play the demo? I know about the 'exclusive content' malarkey, but for demos it seems like shooting themselves in the foot.

The game's been out for months. If anyone was that desperate to play it they would have by now. I'm sure silver users who have bene patient so far won't notice an extra 7 days.

Cant really understand the concept of releasing a demo 1.5 months after the game was released ?

I think MS should make it compulsory for all developers to post a demo of the game, to give a taster of the game to the consumer before the game is released, not 2 months later!

Gold subscribers pay for the service. We PAY for the bandwidth and servers that a lot of these demos are are hosted on while you silver users use to get a demo only a week later but for free. Why shouldnt we get a bit of exclusivity now and again when if it wasn't for the gold subscribers you silver users wouldnt even exist!?

no no you misunderstand my confusion. I'm all for exclusive content for Gold users, though I'm not one myself as yet. It just seems silly limiting the amount of people the demo is available to (even if only for a limited time). My initial reaction when I saw the demo was available was 'great, I'll give it a whirl', swiftly followed by 'well arse to you then'. The demo is designed to sell the games, rather than being 'exclusive content'. And I apply this to all demos and trailers, not just this one.
Exclusive content for Gold users in my eyes should be the downloadable extras that they charge even more money for, not demos.
That's all :)
