Dirge of Cerberus dated

Valentine's day in, er, November.

Square Enix has confirmed its release date for Dirge of Cerberus - Final Fantasy VII, which had been down for release on PlayStation 2 this month.

As it turns out, those of you waiting for this one will be able to pick it up on 17th November.

Starring Vincent Valentine, out of FF VII (obviously), Dirge of Cerberus delves into the world of the old-days PSone game three years after its events.

Valentine has to battle against an organisation called Deepground, and in the process players will experience various new aspects added to the game since its Japanese release - over 40 new missions, an Ex Hard mode and "improved moves and abilities".

Sadly there won't be any online play, because we never got the hard disk over here and, we suppose, it must require one, but never mind.

Look out for a review closer to release.

I imported this and it's shocking. Seriously, don't even bother.

It has pretty cut-scenes... sadly it's not worth playing through the game to actually see them

Where's that FFXII date, you feckers?
  • ManicDrunkMonk #4 5 years ago

Can't they swap the FFXII date with this one?

As much as i'm a FFVII whore this game sounds attrocious...

BUT the game had massive improvements from Japaneese to America so a part of me is hoping they improve it enough for it to be an okay game.

I have the US version and it is easily the worst game I have bought in years. And being a FFVII whore myself (whore being a rediculous understatement) I can honestly say it is no reason at all to buy the game. Excluding Yuffie, Cait Sith (try and control your excitement) and Cid the original cast share about 15 seconds of screentime. The locations are mostly unrelated to FFVII as well, or are altered to being unrecognizable (try and finish the Shinra Mansion level without weeping).

This and the scene where a live action actor interacts with a pre-rendered CG character make this game a worthy suppository.

I for one, played through most of the US version of the game and i though it was quite decent.

I'm not a big FFVII fan anymore than i'm a 3rd person shooter one, but i found the game likeable enough so that should it come out on budget i'll most likely buy it.

Should anyone just be on the lookout for a game of this sort though, Rogue Trooper is a much better example of the genre. Plus, it doesn't have as many lenghty cut-scenes.

Th reviews of the US version have been pretty okay. And as I am an almighty FFVII whore myself, nothing could stop me buying this game. However, I'm not a fan of shooters and I have very little experiance in the genre so my standards aren't that high anyway.....

    ;_;

I'm going to get this game only to complete my FFVII compilation but I highly doubt this game will have enough shelf life for a price cut nevermind budget. o_O.

This sounds like a game that aspires to be average. "Decent" is the most generous summary I've read of it. I'll get it for the sake of completeness(Plus the fact it's only 19.99 on Amazon is bearable), but I do wish Square-Enix would get the message they're shit at spin offs already.

Saying that, I'm still a bit hopeful for Core Crisis being good... If they ever release it...

It's only €26/£17 on Play.com which is great, but I would have payed the regualr new games price for it. Call it blind devotion or whatever, I like FFVII, it's my favpourite game ever and any chance at all to get more of it is more than welcome. An average semi-sequel is better than no sequel at all.....

I do seem to remember hard drives being sold here. Also there is a room in my Uni with about 30 PS2's with hard drives, so they must have got them from somewhere.
  • aine #13 5 years ago

They sold hard drives here with the PS2 Linux. Don't know if they're the same ones that were used for FFXI, though.
  • Blerk #14 5 years ago

They're not, iirc. The drives for PS2 Linux can't be used for games. The standard "for games" PS2 HDD didn't launch in Europe. It barely launched in the US.

I pretty much agree with CitizenGeek. Had mine pre-ordered ages ago. :o)
